2016/2017 Mentor Update - Part 6: 

We are almost half-way through our two programmes at Westminster Academy, W2 5EZ & Woodside High School, N22 5QJ - student nerves are rising, mentor focus is increasing, guest speakers are inspiring and we have even had students saying that they are looking forward to becoming ambassadors and mentors themselves one day.

Please note that there are some subject swaps and session location changes in the below update.

Location & subject changes for Woodside High School

We are excited to be combining Woodside High School, N22 5QJ and Westminster Academy, W2 5EZ  for three of our English sessions. This means that on the dates highlighted below, the sessions will be held at Westminster Academy, W2 5EZ and not Woodside High School, N22 5QJ. Please also note that some Maths and English sessions have been swapped*.

Dates:
  1. Saturday, March 18th - Maths*
  2. Saturday, March 25th - Maths*
  3. Saturday, April 1st - English* - this session will be hosted by Westminster Academy, W2 5EZ
  4. Saturday, April 22nd - English - this session will be hosted by Westminster Academy, W2 5EZ
  5. Saturday, April 29th - Maths
  6. Saturday, May 6th - English - this session will be hosted by Westminster Academy, W2 5EZ
  7. Saturday, May 13th - Maths
  8. Saturday, May 20th - English
  9. Saturday, May 27th - Maths
Times:
  • Mentors can arrive anytime from 0930 and join us for breakfast sponsored by Gail's Bakery, Pret a Manger and Le Pain Quotidien, followed by a mentor morning briefing starting at 0945. Finish time will be between 1500 and 1600, however if you can stay for our guest speakers, workshops and sports until around1630 that would be fantastic.

  • Saturdays at Westminster Academy, W2 5EZ  continue on the 11th March 2017 and run for 10 more sessions until the 27th May 2017.

  4. Saturday, April 1st - English* - Woodside High School students will be coming to Westminster Academy for this session
  5. Saturday, April 22nd - English - Woodside High School students will be coming to Westminster Academy for this session
  6. Saturday, April 29th - Maths
  7. Saturday, May 6th - English - Woodside High School students will be coming to Westminster Academy for this session
  8. Saturday, May 13th - Maths
  9. Saturday, May 20th - English
  10. Saturday, May 27th - Maths
Times:
  • Mentors can arrive anytime from 0900 and join us for breakfast sponsored by Gail's Bakery, Pret a Manger and Le Pain Quotidien, followed by a mentor morning briefing starting at 0930. Finish time will be between 1500 and 1600, however if you can stay for our guest speakers, workshops and sports up until 1630/1700 that would be fantastic.

Guest speakers to watch out for...

Below are some of the upcoming guest speakers and workshops we have planned:
  • Darren Bruce - A former professional boxer & IBO Welterweight World Title challenger, British Kickboxing Champion & County Champion Long Jumper.
  • Amy Longland - Programmes & Partnerships for MyLifeMySay, VC for European Society and Co-chair for Youth4EuropeUK 
  • Patrick Clarke - Director at UK Power Networks and recently been named in a list of the top 100 Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) business leaders
  • Madiha Khan - One Degree Trustee and doctoral candidate for 'Technology in Education'
  • Hashi Mohamed - Barrister and Special Adviser to David Anderson QC, the Independent Reviewer of Terror Legislation
  • May Kwong - Founder of AcadeMe - building professional development solutions to help organisations attract, retain and motivate their millennial talent with a special focus on supporting women in the workplace
  • Riz Ahmed - Actor, musician and speaker most recently known for his Emmy nomination and parliamentary speech on the lack of TV diversity
  • Rehana Ramzan - Security Manager focused on Cyber Security for Payments UK
