Seeking Consultation With Banyule, Nillumbik And Bundoora GPs

Banyule Community Health Service is working with Austin Health, Eastern Melbourne PHN (EMPHN), the Department of Health and Human Services and Ambulance Victoria to improve patient health services in the community and reduce waiting times at hospital emergency departments (EDs).

A new “step-down” health service is being considered for Greensborough that can treat people with non-urgent and semi-urgent health conditions quickly.

The proposed new health service aims to reduce unnecessary Category 4 (semi-urgent) and 5 (non-urgent) presentations to the Austin ED.  It is a service that intends to complement, not replace, ED and general practice services.

EMPHN is seeking consultation with general practitioners in the region to provide valuable information and insight to assist with the planning of this proposed service.

EMPHN is contacting practices in the area to seek a consultation time or alternatively to request a time please email narellequinn@emphn.org.au.

Consultation time will be reimbursed.

Fitness Bands Put To The Test

Researchers at Cancer Council Victoria are planning to find out how useful fitness bands are in making people more physically active.

Funded by the World Cancer Research Fund, the ACTIVATE Trial aims to investigate whether fitness bands are a useful method for increasing activity among breast cancer survivors.

Despite physical activity helping improve the health of cancer patients after treatment, new Australian research shows only 16 percent of breast cancer survivors meet physical activity guidelines.

The data also suggest that breast cancer survivors sit for over eight hours a day, which may contribute to additional health problems.

As part of the trial, participants will receive a FREE Garmin Vivofit2®, which they will be asked to wear for 12 weeks.

People can take part if they:

  • have been diagnosed with breast cancer
  • have completed your treatment
  • are post-menopausal
  • lead an inactive or sedentary lifestyle

If your patients are interested in taking part in this study, please contact Brigid Lynch at Cancer Council Victoria on (03) 9514 6209 or email brigid.lynch@cancervic.org.au
