Finding Health Statistics and Data
Learn how to reliably find authoritative health data, whether for quick tables or in-depth research. Register here!
Introduction to Git
This workshop will provide you with the basics of using Git, a powerful tool for organizing code, collaborating with others and even deploying to the cloud. Register here!
Text Analysis Fundamentals: Methods and Approaches
Part 1 of this 4-part text analysis workshop series will provide a non-technical introduction to basic methods and approaches of text analysis with a special focus on social sciences and the humanities. Register here!
Introduction to Data Visualization with Plotly

Data Wrangling and Manipulation in R
Cleaning and prepping data is crucial to smooth, robust analyses. This workshop will teach participants how to use software tools to ensure data is ready for analysis. Register here!

Text Analysis Fundamentals: Basic Tools and Techniques
Part 2 of this 4-part series will use the NLTK Python package and will introduce preprocessing steps to take before analyzing texts. Register here!

R Graphics with ggplot 2
Get a leg up on how to construct, customize, and export a variety of graphics in order to visualize relationships in data. Register here!
Working Groups
Leveraging Archival Resources at the UC Berkeley Libraries
Join Christina Marino, the Reference Archivist of the Environmental Design Archives, and Jesse Silva, the Federal Documents and Political Science Librarian, for a panel discussion on taking advantage of all that UC Berkeley Libraries have to offer for archival research. Register here!
Securing Research Data
If you're interested in issues around sensitive data and developing solutions around that data for the Berkeley community then come to the inaugural meeting for the new Securing Research Data Working Group will be Monday, March 6 in Barrows 356! Register here!
Digital Humanities Poster Session
In preparation for the Digital Humanities Faire (Apr. 12), the DH working group is holding a tutorial about making posters for presenting humanities research.  If you are planning to make a poster for this year's DH Faire, for DHSI in Victoria, or for any other reason, you are more than welcome to come to Barrows 356 on Friday, March 3, 3:30 - 4:30 PM!
Get Involved in Spring 2017
Working groups are a great way to get involved in a community of like-minded researchers. You can always join at any time! See a listing of working groups on our website.
Special Events & Announcements
GIF Workshops: Introductions to GIS
Berkeley's Geospatial Innovation Facility (GIV) offers free workshops for students and they have to introductions to GIS with both an Environmental Science focus and a Social Science focus!
Calling all Qualtrics and Tableau users!
D-Lab is looking for UCB students who have strong knowledge of Qualtrics or Tabealu to lead workshops. See this blog post for more details.
Spring 2017 Tours & Orientations
D-Lab is here to support and advance research in the social sciences, humanities and related disciplines. If you are a faculty, student, or advisor the D-Lab team is available in the Spring Semester to come to your department and give an orientation of our services. We are also happy to host your group at the D-Lab for a formal or informal tour of our space and to discuss our services. Email us to arrange a visit.
