Lent. Please join us this and every Wednesday evening in Lent for a brief worship service at 7:00 p.m. Holden Evening Prayer will be used with a homily from our Confirmation students. This week Pete Etheredge and his uncle, NT-NL Bishop Erik Gronberg, will deliver the message.
This Sunday, March 12, we will have a guest presenter at adult Sunday School: Anna (Looft) Fett. Her talk is entitled "Israel and Palestine: The Road to 1948." It will include an overview of the native inhabitants of the land, the origins of Zionism, the mandate years of British occupation of the land following the First World War, the 1948 War and its consequences—both short term and to the present day. All are welcome!
Emmaus Gathering. This Saturday, March 11, at 6:00 p.m. Abiding Grace is hosting the Denton Area Emmaus Gathering. This is a potluck and worship service for anyone who has attended (or is interested in learning about) an Emmaus Walk, Via de Cristo, Chrysalis, Kairos, Tres Dias or similar Christian three-day camp event. All are welcome! Please bring a dish or dessert to share. Drinks will be provided. After supper we have a worship service and communion. For more information, contact Paul or Lisa Harrington. De Colores!
Spring break and Spring ahead. There is no youth Sunday School this week due to Spring break (there is adult Sunday School led by Anna Fett). This Sunday is also the start of Daylight Saving Time. Be sure to move your clocks ahead or you'll be late!
Hymn Festival: Marty Haugen is the composer of many hymns and liturgies found in our hymnal, including Holden Evening Prayer which we are using for Lent. Bethany Lutheran Church at 10101 Walnut Hill Lane in Dallas is hosting Mr. Haugen and will present a Hymn Festival on Sunday, March 12, at 2:00 p.m. The event is free and all are invited.
Five new Stephen Ministers will be commissioned at our worship service on Sunday, March 19. Please attend to help celebrate their accepting of this call to ministry.
Family picnic. Join us after worship on March 19 at Bicentennial Park in Southlake for a family picnic. Pack your own lunch and bring a Frisbee, hula hoop, bat and glove, or whatever else you'd like. We'll meet at the park at 12:00 and enjoy a few hours playing outside and helping to decorate Easter bags for San Gabriel church. Please let Taylor know if you're planning on attending (weather permitting).
Construction update. For the next three weeks work will continue on drainage and water lines. Electrical work will begin as will removal of trees and demolition of the sheds. Please be careful and observe all signs.
A property work day will be held Saturday morning, March 25. It will be followed by a BBQ picnic. For more information, please contact Paul Harrington.
Forty Days – Forty Items. For Lent the Outreach team asks you to consider the following: for each day of Lent, remove one item from your home that you no longer wear or need and put it in a plastic trash bag. On Easter morning, the end of the forty days, bring the bag to church and all items will be donated to GRACE.
Thrivent Choice. Are you a member of Thrivent? If so, you can direct some of their charitable outreach funds to go to Abiding Grace through Thrivent Choice®. The deadline to designate your 2016 Choice Dollars is March 31, 2017. Visit Thrivent Choice online and search for "Abiding Grace Southlake." For more information see Wayne or Becky Mishoe.
AGLC at the Rangers. Do you like hanging out with AGLC folks? Do you like baseball? Come watch a Rangers game with us. There is a 2:05 p.m. game on Sunday, April 30, that we're going to get group tickets for. To gauge how many tickets we'll be buying, we need to know if you want to go, so please let Taylor know by Sunday, March 19, if you'd like to be included.
The Member Care Committee is seeking a new chair—please contact Joan Lucas if you are interested in serving. Martha Looft and Margaret Anderson are the new coordinators for home-bound meals, and Linda Pileggi is the ride coordinator. If you need help with meals or transportation during an illness, please contact these members.
Preparing for Long-Term Care. Thrivent will be at AGLC on Monday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. for a one-hour presentation on preparing—emotionally, physically and financially—for long-term care.
