Round the Bays this Sunday 5 March
Round the Bays will be run this Sunday. The event will be much the same as previous years, with the course being along Tamaki Drive from Quay St to St Heliers. Various after-event BBQs and functions will be held at Madills Farm, Kohimarama.
Note that Tamaki Drive will be closed, generally from 7:00am to 12:45pm, with parking restrictions from 5:00am. More detailed information on road closure and parking restrictions can be found here.
If any of you are running in this event, all the very best.

Mission Bay streetscape update
The Mission Bay streetscape project is largely complete, with only a few issues to be tidied up. While it has been in use since Christmas, finishing touches to the pohutukawa surrounds and other street furniture were only done in the last week or so.
The project has certainly made this part of Mission Bay far more attractive. The area now feels much more spacious and has a more relaxed al fresco vibe.
Some people have pointed out that the light coloured tiles are prone to get dirty, while acknowledging that the light colour is more 'beachy' and in keeping with the casual beach suburb environment. We are told that the tiles have been sealed to stop stains penetrating, and the Council is cleaning them 3 times a week. The situation is being monitored to see whether this is sufficient, or whether more needs to be done to keep them looking good.

New fitness station
You may have noticed a new facility at the eastern end of Mission Bay, a group of wooden frames and bars over a bark bed. This is a fitness station, designed to help provide those who exercise in the area with a different set of equipment to work on strength, flexibility and balance.
At different times of the day it is proving very popular, even though when I took this photo in the heat of the day, it was empty. This is a good addition to Mission Bay, providing another way for residents and visitors to make use of Selwyn Reserve.

New bus network
We are pleased to report that AT has responded to our submissions on proposed changes to the bus network. They have agreed with most of our points and adjusted their proposed routes to deal with the issues we raised. We believe that this outcome is very good for Mission Bay and Kohimarama residents, and are pleased by AT's responsiveness.
The key changes are:
- The route from Kohi Rd/Kepa Rd to Britomart which was to be dropped has been reinstated.
- The route from our area to Newmarket which had been dropped has been reinstated, although in a slightly different form. This route will now run from Mission Bay to Newmarket, instead of previously from St Heliers.
- While the previous plan had been to drop all routes in the interior of the suburbs (between Tamaki Drive and Kepa Rd), a new loop services has now been added route 766, which will link Mission Bay, Kohimarama, St Heliers and Glendowie, and connect the waterfront to Kepa Rd.
The changes are expected to be implemented in the second half of this year. You can find the new route map here.

Council Budget consultation
Each year, the Council sets a budget, outlining how much they will spend across various parts of the organisation, and how they will set rates. Before they finalise anything, they go out to the community to check what we think about their proposed spending priorities and rates increases.
The Orakei Local Board is holding a public meeting to discuss the proposed Budget;
6 pm Thursday 23 March
St Chad's Community Centre
Meadowbank.
This year, we have a new Mayor, who stood on a commitment to keep rates increases to a modest level, and to extract savings from the Council's current spending. While we don't believe the Mayor will be attending this meeting, it still provides an opportunity to see where the new Council's spending priorities lie and to compare those with election promises.
The key decisions identified by the Council are set out here. You might want to think about these and either go to the meeting to have your say, submit your views directly, or send us your views so that we can take these into account in the submission that we make.
Our Orakei Ward Councillor, Desley Simpson, will be speaking to clarify some of the issues, and to highlight what she believes are the good and bad points in the proposed Budget.

Stonehouse public meeting
As you will be aware, the Stonehouse heritage buildings in Selwyn Reserve are undergoing earthquake strengthening, and a new restaurant is being built.
We are planning a public meeting to update everyone on progress. This includes results from the archaeological survey of the site, an outline of the history of the buildings and the area, plus information about the new restaurant.
This is just a preliminary notification. We are still working on dates and presenters, but expect the meeting to be in early May. We will, of course, let you know what's going on closer to the time.
