China to Expand Dedicated IP Courts
Intellectual Property Courts are approved to be established in four new China cities. Currently dedicated Intellectual Property Courts only operate in Beijing, Shanghai, and in Guangdong. The new courts, to be established in Nanjing and Suzhou in Jiangsu province, Wuhan in Hubei province and Chengdu in Sichuan province, are to establish IP-dedicated courts to hear cases involving the most complex technical IP issues.

The new court divisions help to ensure more professional judges suggest the expansion of dedicated IP courts throughout China going forward. The current three IP courts have heard more than 30,300 cases over the past two years since their establishment.

The four cities approved for the new IP courts are located n the Yangtze River economic belt and are known as regional business and innovation hubs. In Jiangsu, more than 29,000 companies have filed patent applications, with 73 granted Strong Enterprise and National IP Model status.

This is another reflection of the growing trend toward better Intellectual Property enforcement in China. More dedicated IP Courts will result in more professional and experienced judges hearing complex patents cases.
