Atmosphere Newsletter February 2017

Movies galore! Atmosphere looks better on film…

Knowing that a picture says more than a thousand words, we find at Atmosphere that movies say even more and we place a strong emphasis on short films showing the world our amazing resort, spectacular diving and stunning surroundings. Three new movies saw the light this month, one of our House Reef, one of our Diving and one about Exploring the area. Have a look here!

Branding

Short but sweet – Atmosphere adds another logo to strengthen the brand

We are excited to announce that we have a new logo at Atmosphere. After much debate, we wanted a symbol as an addition to the full logo, and we hope you like it as much as we do! Here are a few variations. Can you spot the palm tree?

Liveaboards

We’re off to Palau – and to Tubbataha in the Philippines!

This coming week, Atmosphere has chartered the S/Y Palau Siren of Worldwide Dive & Sail for a week of diving with sharks and mantas in the blue waters of Palau in Micronesia. Adam and Ulrika will be hosting the trip and they are beyond excited. Next year, we’ll stay within the Philippines and visit the famous Tubbataha reef onboard the S/Y Philippine Siren, a trip not to be missed! There is also a Siren trip in November around the Visayas, which can be combined with a stay at Atmosphere – contact ulrika@tmosphereresorts.com for details!

Spa Update

The Sanctuary Spa expands with new therapists

In our efforts to expand the Sanctuary Spa, let us introduce you to three new therapists who have been with us for a little over 6 months now. Nerissa Ponting, from nearby town of Bacong, loves to increase the wellness of her clients through massage therapy and Gilbert Sardan, also from Bacong, who has many years of experience in giving rejuvenating wellness treatments. We also have a new Spa Receptionist, Jovilyn Divina, local from our own town of Dauin, who is currently being trained in Spa Therapy and is excited to start sharing her talents with our guests.

Unusual and beautiful portraits of our dive crew

Every year at Atmosphere, we see a rise in the popularity of small and unusual critters - muck diving or macro diving - and we are proud to say that it has enabled many locals to obtain work, to be professionally trained and to provide for their families here in Dauin. Our dive crew are a good example and whilst conducting research on muck diving habitats on the Atmosphere House Reef, Martin de Brauwer and Luke Gordon also spent a lot of time with our dive crew. These photos by Luke came out of it and we think they are very beautiful. Recognize any of the guys? Read more in Luke Gordon’s blog.

Residences

Buy your own piece of Atmosphere

When Atmosphere was built in 2008, the Residences - Penthouses and Garden Apartments - were intended to function both as hotel rooms and homes. All of them were purchased privately, to be used part of the year by their owners, and the rest of the time by our guests. We are now reselling a Penthouse and a Garden Apartment - a great opportunity to invest in a second home in paradise! You will be able to enjoy the convenience and facilities of a boutique resort whilst we take care of the management and upkeep of your second home in the tropics. Resort Living at its best! Contact Rolyn Cardo for more details and click here to download a PDF with all the details.

Excursions

Join Atmosphere on a visit to the red waterfall Pulang bato

Pulang Bato, literally meaning “Red Rocks” is an area of Valencia, Dumaguete. A tributary of the Ocoy River where the rocks are a deep red/copper colour and the sulphur escapes from the volcanic mountain of Talinis.

Here you can find a huge cascading waterfall and a wonderfully picturesque and rejuvenating place to sit quietly in nature. Although it is one of the most visited waterfalls in Negros Oriental, its natural essence is still preserved and there are a selection of pools and native huts to chill out in with friends and family.

It can be paired with a stop off at the medicinal hot springs with a magnificent view of the red rock ravine so if you wish to take a trip, please speak to our reception during your stay.

Dive Shows

Daniel speaks about Frogfish in Singapore

February 24-26 was a first for DRT, with the organization’s first show in Singapore. Atmosphere was represented with a booth manned by our International Sales Manager Saila Kitola, and our Marine Biologist Daniel Geary. Why Daniel, you may ask? We are proud to say that he was asked to speak at the show about his favorite topic – and area of expertise – frogfish. The talk was very much appreciated by a substantial audience and we hope you’ll get to catch Daniel speaking at more dive shows in the future – and at Atmosphere of course!

Photographer of the month

The king of non-manipulation shows us what he can do
– Alex Tattersall at Atmosphere

Alex has proven over and over that there is no need to move, harass or manipulate marine life to get a great shot. Here are some excellent examples mostly taken during his stay with Atmosphere this month.

Spa Update

Guided meditation at Atmosphere

Meditation induces relaxation and among other things meditation has been proven to reduce stress, increase happiness and improve immunity and concentration. To see it is to believe it, so why not give it a go on your next stay at Atmosphere? Resort and Spa Manager, Rae offers one-on-one or group meditation sessions at our yoga tree house, on the beach or in our tropical gardens. She can guide you through the process and help you to deeply relax the mind. It is a difficult skill to learn but the benefits can definitely be life-changing.

Marinelife

Shaun the sheep – a photographer’s favorite…

This seaslug is fondly nicknamed 'Shaun the Sheep' for its likeness to Sheep and in particular the sheep in the British animated TV-series with the same name. They are very tiny, 2-5mm in size which makes them almost impossible to see in detail with your naked eyes. You’ll see a green spot, but with the help of a camera with a close-up lens you can appreciate the details later! Here are a couple of Costasiella sp. pictured by Atmosphere marine biologist Daniel, grazing adorably on their favorite leafs on the Atmosphere house reef - and a reference picture from a movie by Simon Spear mentioned in as separate article…
