Celebrate BMA Volunteers March 22nd

BOA Volunteers Walker Ranch 1992...25 Years of Service!

Volunteers make it happen and BMA runs on volunteer labor...mostly. Last year BMA volunteers did incredible work in our community and on Wednesday March 22, BMA will honor them with the annual Volunteer Recognition & Recruitment Party held at Bicycle Village in Boulder from 6:30-8:00PM.

If you volunteered in 2016 or are simply interested in how you can contribute in 2017, you are invited to this celebration. BMA will provide great food, Oskar Blues beer, and awards and swag for all volunteers! Last year about 80 people attended and the top prize was a Specialized Fatboy fat bike. Who knows what we'll have this year?!

Even if you weren't able to volunteer last year, we have plenty of volunteer opportunities available. The following committees still need volunteers to assist in some of the many things BMA does to improve trails and our community!

  • Advocacy: BMA Trail Master Plan, access, new trail development, community-wide planning, political & community networking
  • Programs: Social events, skills courses, social rides, yoga classes, youth programs, BRUTE Squad, volunteer programs, maintenance classes, weekend trips!
  • Development & Events: fundraising events, Sufferfest, Spring Soiree, Annual meeting, House Parties
  • Trails: BMA Trail Master Plan, trail projects maintenance, building, decommissioning, reclamation, National Trail Days
  • NATO-BMA Magnolia Trails Project Ad Hoc: working with USFS to develop great trails in Ned

Time spent volunteering in a committee qualifies you for awesome Volunteer Recognition prizes awarded each year during the annual Volunteer Recognition and Recruitment party held in March.

Mountain Bike Icon Moves into Leadership Role to Advance IMBA into New Era

Boulder, CO—The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) is pleased to announce it has completed its Executive Director search. Dave Wiens will join IMBA staff as Executive Director, effective Feb 8, 2017.

A legendary racer, revered local advocate and an inspiring leader in the mountain bike world, Wiens joined IMBA’s Board of Directors in January 2016 and was elected Chairman in November 2016. His vision and commitment to the non-profit quickly stood out to the Board of Directors and management team. It became clear Wiens is who IMBA needs to lead the organization into its next era. Wiens raced mountain bikes professionally from 1988 to 2004 and has raced on trails all over the world. He is the founder and executive director of Gunnison Trails, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing singletrack bike trails on public lands adjacent to Gunnison, Colorado. A member of the mountain bike hall of fame, Wiens also works in the bicycle industry for Ergon.

"As a mountain biker I share a passion for trails and riding with this entire community. IMBA has been an important part of mountain biking getting better and better over the past 30 years and I'm looking forward to working with mountain bikers from all over, as well as other stakeholders, while IMBA continues to help provide great places to ride,” said Wiens.

"I can speak on the behalf of BMA and say we're excited to see Dave's plan for the future of IMBA. This is a great opportunity for IMBA to establish a deeper relevance to mountain bikers, regardless of their level of expertise or enthusiasm," commented BMA Executive Director, Steve Watts.
