Letter from Our Directors

Dear Everest Families,

After months of planning, the study trips are finally here! These grade-level experiences are one of the most beloved traditions we have at Everest, forming memories to be treasured by students for years to come.

As you have no doubt heard, we are still in need of a few final parent volunteers to drive our students. If you or a friend or family member is interested in generously donating time to make these trips possible, please reach out to a representative of your grade level immediately and learn more information by going to everest.summitps.org/studytrips.

As your freshman, sophomore, or junior child prepares for this trip, please remind them that they will be representing your family as well as the Everest community while away from our building. School rules apply for the duration of the trip. We expect students to continue to embody our core characteristics, and encourage you to discuss how they plan to do so.

  • COURAGE - Step out of your comfort zone and try something new!
  • RESPECT - Treat every person kindly and remember to “please” and “thank you”! Leave each location better and cleaner than you found it.
  • RESPONSIBILITY - Be where you are supposed to be at all times, and take extra steps to help out teachers, parent drivers, and other organizers.
  • CURIOSITY - Learn something new at each stop. Try to envision yourself as a college student at each campus!
  • COMPASSION - Empathize with your peers who might be feeling uncomfortable. Find a way to brighten someone’s day and make them smile!INTEGRITY - Do the right thing at all times, even when nobody else is looking. Make your parents and school proud!

Just as we expect much from our students, we as a school do everything we can to ensure that our community is safe and informed. We hope that you took the time to read the email from Summit Public Schools on March 1st titled “Student Inclusion and Safety.” This memo outlines the values and commitments of our school with regard to some of the policies and events that have been recently featured in the national news. At Everest in particular, we continue to be committed to the safety and inclusion of all of our students, especially sometimes marginalized communities of immigrants and transgendered people. We are working to organize resources and events for families to learn more about their rights in the current climate. In the meantime, one organization that provides legal and informational help to immigrants is the International Institute of the Bay Area. Check out their website or visit their Redwood City office at the Fair Oaks Community Center if you or a friend is in need.

Sincerely,
Chris Lewine & Drew Moriates

Message From Our EPO

There are so many wonderful and unique things that I love about Everest. One of the best is the yearly Study Trip that each class goes on. It is an amazing opportunity for our kids to go onto college campuses each year, picture themselves at college and compare all of the different colleges that we take them to.

It is also a wonderful experience for the parents who drive on these trips. You get to interact with your student's classmates, you get to see the colleges for yourselves (so much has changed since I went to college!), you get to meet other wonderful Everest parents and you get to really help our small school offer this wonderful opportunity for all of our students.

We realize that this is a lot to ask, for you to take two days off of work, to be away from your family, but know that you are making a HUGE impact on our students and we are so very grateful for you. Thank you to everybody who will be driving this week. It isn't too late to sign up. Please text Jay Patel your name and student's grade if you haven't signed up and you want to: 415-254-4582.
Everest Athletics

Everest has 13 girls ready to play softball this spring, but as of now we do not have a coach.  If you interested in coaching the team or know of anyone interested, please email the Athletic Directors at everestphsathletics@gmail.com

Boys baseball practice should be starting the first week of March, so if you are going out of the team please have your sports packet turned into Ms Lowe.

More details to come on location and practices dates for both spring sports.  You can also check the Athletics web page calendar for up to date information.

EPO - CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS TO DRIVE ON STUDY TRIP

Our teachers have been working very hard to plan a rich, informative and fun College/Study trip for our students!  The more a student is exposed to colleges and universities the more they see themselves in that world and see the amazing possibilities that world can provide them.

Our College/Study Trips are scheduled as follows:

* 9th Grade - Wed 3/8 and Thur 3/9 - Monterey Bay Aquarium/CSU Monterey Bay/ San Jose State
* 10th Grade - Thur 3/9 to Fri 3/10 - UC Merced, Cal Poly and Santa Clara University
* 11th Grade - Thur 3/9 to Fri 3/10 - UC Davis, Sacramento State and the State Capitol

The 9th grade trip will be two day trips, leaving first thing in the morning and returning in the late afternoon each day. The 10th and 11th grade trips are overnight trips and you will leave early on Thursday, March 9th and return Friday, March 10th in the late afternoon. Parents driving for the 10th and 11th grade trips are responsible for their overnight hotel stay...we will make hotel recommendations.

Without parents like you this opportunity can not happen - we are a small school and rely on parent participation.  Please volunteer to make this opportunity a reality for your child and others.

12th Grade Study Trip to Ashland, Oregon Needs YOU!!

Set your calendar for: Wed. May 24th - Fri. May 26th
A true Senior Send-Off experience integrating academics, Mentor Group bonding, college readiness and a celebration of our unique Everest experience!

Trip Highlights:
- Experience Shasta Dam and the science behind it:
   https://www.usbr.gov/mp/ncao/shasta-dam.html
- Enjoy the theatrical production of MOJADA part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Series,
- Hands-on experience of a self-sustaining, alternative energy production farm at Willow-Witt Ranch:    http://willowwittranch.com/
- Tour Southern Oregon University (SOU) with the focus on how to find and maximize the wealth of resources available to our children on a college campus

1.)  HELP FUND OUR BUS - We have 81 Seniors, a bus holds around 52 students so, with a bus, we only need Parent Volunteer Drivers for 29 students.   Our needed goal amount is $5,000 in order to rent a bus and we’d like to reach that goal by the end of February.  If we do not reach our goal amount we need many more Parent Volunteer Drivers to provide seatbelt coverage for 81 students vs 29.  Please donate a financial contribution (any amount large and/or small makes a difference) so we can rent a bus.

How to contribute:  Please send a check (written out to Everest Public High School) or money in an envelope to the attention of Jenny Macho, Senior Study Trip Faculty Lead.

2.) Sign up to be a Parent Volunteer Driver: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040B4AAFAE1-12th3

3.) Sign up to donate tasty snacks during the long ride there and back (snacks always make a car trip fun and Ashland, Oregon is a bit of a distance):    http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040B4AAFAE1-12th8

Many Thanks ☺!

Join us for an engaging workshop with My Digital TAT2 on digital trends, psychological responses to social media, and the impact of social media on the adolescent brain.

Just as the Google search has replaced the handshake, social media has become the new resume. As we move from being managers to consultants for our teens, staying actively involved is crucial to raising ethical and responsible digital citizens. This session looks at the issues that high school teens are experiencing and includes topics such a sexting, emotional responses to social media, and how to manage online reputations for college, work, and beyond.

My Digital TAT2 is a nonprofit organization that helps schools and communities address one of the most challenging issues facing families today: How to build the healthy habits and critical thinking skills we need to integrate technology into our lives in a constructive way. Its proven, face-to-face curriculum inspires conscious and responsible participation in our connected world.

Parents, students, faculty/staff, and community members welcome! Spanish interpretation will be available. Free admission.
