Inspire - Care - Succeed

What's done is done

Year 11 students have been treated to a dynamic ‘Macbeth’ performance by The Box Clever Theatre Company. The adaptation blended Shakespeare’s electrifying dialogue with a modern context and ingenious set design.

Year 11 students not only got to watch in awe, but a lucky few were able to actively participate in certain key scenes. During the seminar session, two were directed by the a cast member and world class staged-fight director to re-work the ending of the play and answer the question: "should Macbeth have triumphed at the end?" It was a thoroughly engaging and enlightening spectacle for staff and students alike.

OK, where's Wally?
You will have no trouble finding a ‘Wally’ in these pictures as John Hanson Community School pulled out all the stops for the 20th anniversary celebrations of World Book Day. Students and staff adopted a new uniform for the special day, all dressing up as classic childhood book hero Where's Wally. The students have also been taking part in a fun range of activities based on the much-loved series, while dressed up as either Wally or his friends Wenda, Odlaw, Wizard Whitebeard or Woof.

The specific theme was chosen because 2017 is Where's Wally's 30th Anniversary and is a prime example of all the things World Book Day celebrates:  authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) reading.  Alongside the fancy dress, all students were given a free book token, generously donated to the school from the National Book Tokens Ltd.

PSHE Day 4
8th March 2017
Year 7 will have a day of focussing on local government and considering what is positive about Andover, and what could make Andover better. We will be joined by representatives from TVBC.

Year 8 will be focussing on Finance, money management and banking,  by following a series of workshops across the day – including a workshop run by Lloyds.

Year 9 will focus on wellbeing, covering a range of issues such as the dangers of cannabis, smoking cigarettes and vaping, body image, radicalisation, forced marriages, and a road safety workshop.

Year 10 will focus on a range of activities across the day. This will include a presentation by the Teenage Cancer Trust, and then a carousel of workshops focussing on Democracy, USA politics influence on the UK, British values, social media awareness, and sexting.

Year 11 will focus on a range of activities across the day. They will start with a speaking and listening activity in English. This will be followed by a presentation by the Teenage Cancer Trust, and then a series of three workshops – Road safety with Hampshire Fire Service, Readiness for Life with the school nurse service, and exam stress and resilience with Andover Mind.

The day promises to be as successful as the last and we will share all that we have done with you after the event!

John Hanson Hosts Primary Footballers
John Hanson played host to teams of Year 3/4 pupils from local primary schools this week.  Under clear blue skies the teams played a football tournament throughout the day. Each team was supported by some of John Hanson's Young Leaders and the all the refereeing was done by our qualified Y10 football referees.  It is no easy thing to referee a match in front of parents and teachers from the visiting schools!

The final was between our two local primary schools, Balksbury and St John's. The match went into extra time and the golden goal was scored by Matthew Hide from St John's. A very proud mum was on hand to share the moment!
