United Nations Inter-Parlimentary Hearing on Ocean
Peter Neill, director of the World Ocean Observatory, moderated eight panels on ocean issues over two days at the United Nations in late February. The purpose of the panels was to discuss Sustainable Development Goal 14: the conservation and sustainable use of the ocean. Jointly organized by the IPU and the Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the meeting brought together more than 200 members of parliament to discuss major international ocean issues. Findings from the hearing will provide context for the United Nations Ocean Conference scheduled for June 5 through 9, 2017.
