Dear Parents

What a fantastic range of costumes and props from children and staff  to support World Book Day! Thank you for helping your children to join in with this event so positively. The Book Exchange over the last couple of mornings was a great success and very well organised by Mrs Osman-Allu and the Eco-Council. Such a simple idea but a very effective and cheap way to re-invigorate the reading material at home. As we know “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr Seuss.

Nursery enjoy the new mud kitchen

Our new mud kitchen has provided lots of opportunities for imaginative play this week and some interesting concoctions have been prepared! In order for this to become part of our daily provision we would kindly request that your child always has their wellington boots and waterproof clothing. These are necessary as they do get muddy, thank you.

Reception children take a look at their family trees

We have loved looking at your very detailed family trees this week and have enjoyed continuing talking about close and extended family members. We had a whole year group discussion about Harry’s family tree where he had included a photograph of his Great Great Grandmother born in 1855.

Year 3 study the education system of the Ancient Greeks

As well as the continuing Take One Picture work, the children have been enjoying their studies of the Ancient Greeks in earnest this week.  Greek education has been the focus, with the girls preferring the Spartan education system, learning to fistfight, over Athenian sewing and washing up!

Year 6 - hands and the art of storytelling

Year 6 have begun preparing some interesting descriptive writing about Hogarth’s painting of The Graham Children. We have looked at the hands in the picture, those of the children and even the cat, balanced on the back of the chair and explored verbs and adjectives to describe them and what they are doing.

We celebrated World Book Day this week with the traditional ‘Dress Up Friday’. The children looked amazing in their costumes which were inspired by the  characters drawn by the illustrator, Axel Scheffler. We had witches, dragons, cats, dogs and frogs from ‘Room on the Broom’, plenty of monkeys, gruffaloes, stick men, scarecrows, zog, Fred from Tabby McTat, animals from ‘A squash and a Squeeze’ as well as two enormous whales!

Walk to School Week - w/c 20th March

With Walk to School Week fast approaching (w/c 20th March) - we are looking for volunteer parents to be available to hand out stickers at the Link Road Car Park.

A rota will be set up for 20 minute sessions in the mornings (7:55-8:35 overall), to catch the walkers on their way to school.

We already have a small number of volunteers, but would appreciate many more - particularly from the lower school please.

It's a great opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, see the pleasure on the childrens' faces and meet other parents!

Can you please email the school office if you are able to help, with details of your availability.
