5th Street SE Pedestrian / Bike Bridge Update

On February 28, 2017, Minneapolis' Transportation and Public Works committee approved the conceptual layout for the future 5th Street SE pedestrian / bike bridge. For more about the supporting documents for this project, please visit the City of Minneapolis' website.

Keep in mind that this is not the final design of what the bridge will actually look like; the TPW committee was only approving of where the ramp(s) would begin, and approximately where the bridge would actually begin to cross 35W. Our Transportation and Creative Places committees are helping ensure MHNA contributes to the final bridge design.

Creative Places Salon

The MHNA Creative Places committee held its first Community Salon on February1, focusing on the topic of "neighborhood identity." Forty stakeholders, from new and long-time residents (both renters and homeowners), to University personnel and students, to business owners, artists, historians and more—were invited to this first event, held at the Soap Factory. We'll be planning more events and forming a task force.

What happens now? More community discussions…and deep listening by a MHNA Task Force that has been formed to gather insights and make recommendations moving forward. If you’d like to stay in the loop regarding discussions contact Chris via email or office phone, 612.623.7633.
  • SEE the graphic summary Lisa Troutman (of Drawnwell) created during the salon.
  • ENJOY a photo album of images from the event courtesy of Candy Kuehn.

  • MAKE ADDITIONAL COMMENTS via this two-question survey.
  • STAY ABREAST of all neighborhood discussions and actions by joining MHNA (free).
