On April 5th Phoenix Alumnae will be hosting our Pi Zeta chapter members at our Annual Taco Buffet! This year it will be held following their Spring Initiation ceremony. If you can help us out with this event, please give Lorna Green a call. We mainly need alumnae to help set up and serve the food. If you have the time, there is a little cooking that can be done ahead of time.

Initiation starts at 5 pm and you are welcome to attend that. Just make sure you wear all white! But we probably won't be serving until 6:30. Parking is very easy - right in front of the Masonic Lodge, located at 2531 N. Scottsdale Rd. (east side of Scottsdale Rd., south of Thomas). This is a fun event that will give you a chance to talk to the Pi Zeta chapter women.
Contact Lorna by phone: 602-290-6475 or email: lornagreen47@gmail.com
if you can help serve.
The Excitement Continues for Tucson Alumnae in 2017!
Spring is approaching, flowers are blooming, cactus tunas are popping up, so our April luncheon will usher in our beautiful season. When we meet for our luncheon on April 3rd at 12:00 at Hacienda del Sol, it will be a celebration of being an official Alumnae Chapter of National. When Nancy Karsh and I attended the Turtles and Pearls Milestone Luncheon in Phoenix in February, the Phoenix Alumnae group were excited for us and delighted we now have two alum groups in Arizona. Tucson received our charter from National in March and it will be on view when we meet April 3.

We have a lot of other news to share plus Nancy has been working on the name tags and should have them available. Oscar the turtle will share his new adventures with Chris Strong. Please let me know asap if you will be joining us for the luncheon at this beautiful resort. Those of you who attended our holiday luncheon in December remember what a classy experience it was. They will provide separate checks and a private room.

Date: April 03, 2017       Time: 12:00 Noon
Location: The Grill at Hacienda del Sol (The Murphy Room), 5501 N. Hacienda del Sol, Tucson, Arizona

Let's lunch on DZ's!!
Pi Zeta Chapter of DZ at ASU
Chapter Retreat Spring 2017

Our Pi Zeta Chapter women spent the weekend of March 25th at a house retreat. They left Saturday morning around 9am and headed up north to Prescott where they had a day filled with activities at Camp Pine Rock. They were divided into small groups and spent the afternoon completing different team building activities that helped to grow their sisterhood; such as a community service project where they made fleece blankets that will be donated to a local woman's shelter, team obstacle course, and various other team building activities. After the days events, they enjoyed dinner together and from there they all participated in a sisterhood workshop/presentation lead by Ashleigh Sickman, CCD. Following the presentation they enjoyed time together, which included a camp fire and smores, then ending the night with a turtle talk. They stayed the night at camp in cabins, which were very nice, and had breakfast on Sunday before heading home to Tempe! Also attending from the advisory board was Lorna Green. Truly a wonderful weekend!

Delta Zeta Alumnae Philanthropies in Arizona
• Phoenix Alumnae have been working with the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf providing a scholarship for graduating seniors since 1983. This year the Philanthropy committee has a new application process to award our Claudia Edwards Hosking Memorial Scholarship(s). Phoenix will award scholarships based on applications which this year include essay questions and teacher recommendations for those continuing their education. Last year we were able to award three students a total of $2500 in scholarships. Have you purchased you MakeUp Eraser yet? The funds from those sales help with this scholarship program. You are invited to attend the Awards Ceremony at the school May 16 from 1-3pm when the scholarships will be presented. It is always a moving occasion and a chance to meet the students and parents.

• Tucson Alumnae has been in touch with Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind located in Tucson.  They will present a couple of dates at their April 3rd luncheon for a tour and presentation by the staff.  We would like to discuss a possible project for our alumnae group that would be a support to the school and their students.
Fundraising for our Philanthropies Made Simple!
When you purchase a Makeup Eraser for only $20 our ΔΖ Phoenix Alumnae Chapter will receive $10 back! Comes in pink, black, blue and purple. These make great gifts. It removes all make up with only water. Just wash with laundry once a week and it is ready to work again. To see it work:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fsx-LUFtnG0
Contact our Philanthropy chair Natalie at: philanthropy@deltazetaphoenix.com to purchase your Makeup Erasers. Our philanthropy donations include scholarships for Phoenix Day School of the Deaf seniors going on to higher education and Delta Zeta Foundation. Thanks to those who have already helped raise funds this year.
Alumna Spotlight-Julia Pitman

Now Academic advisor in ASU's W.P. Carey School of Business, Julia Garleb Pitman (Gamma Omega, Southern Illinois University, BS in Business Management) is still deeply involved with Delta Zeta. As an alumna, this busy mother of two - Domenic, age 2, and Eliana, born at the end of February 2017 - knows our sorority continues to foster friendship and sisterhood.

"When I was a collegiate member, it was my home away from home and friendship I was searching for," Julia says. "Now it is also the avenue for me to impact the lives of young women in Pi Zeta and across the country."

Julia has served on the Pi Zeta Advisory Board for about five years. "I cherish the relationships that grow and develop year after year with the Academics chair, Executive Board, and chapter members," she says.

She has had opportunities to volunteer with Delta Zeta on the national level through serving on various committees and facilitating at leadership conferences. "I love being able to give back and grow our sisterhood into the strong national organization that it is and will become even more so in the future," she explains.

While Delta Zeta remains an important component, her family is Julia's top priority...and influences many aspects of her life, even music. Her favorite song is "Move Your Feet" from the TROLLS movie, one of her son's favorite films. "This song just makes you want to dance and have fun!" she explains.

Another fun thing for Julia and her family is travel. "It is one thing we value the most," she says. Two trips have made a stamp on her heart: the honeymoon to Thailand in 2014 and a family trip to Italy a couple of years ago. She and her husband, Trey, enjoyed Bangkok and Phuket so much they plan to go there again.

As for the trip to Italy, "It was my first time there, and we (Trey, our 5-month-old son, and I) went to Torino to visit my husband's cousins and family who still live there. It was amazing to meet his family and see Italy's nontourist side. We look forward to going back (Sicily) this summer and taking our newest addition, Eliana, with us!"

And we look forward to Julia's continued service to Delta Zeta...and hope Eliana will be a Legacy!

Phoenix Alumnae Chapter is
collecting dues for 2017.

In an effort to simplify our collection of yearly dues, Phoenix will now be collecting dues from January 1 - December 31 (instead of Fall through Spring the following year). Therefore, you can start sending Lorna our treasurer your dues for the 2017 year any time now. Thanks to the 14 of you that have already done just that! We hope this change will make it easier to remember if you paid dues. It will also make it easier to do our Annual Report to National.

Dues are still only $35, with $10 going to National and another portion going to Phoenix Panhellenic. We are still a bargain! Thanks to your support, we are able to do quite a few things for the Pi Zeta Chapter at ASU, as well as award scholarships to graduating seniors at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf and of course our alumnae events. We would love for you to join us for an alumna activity, but if you are unable to do so, please consider supporting us with your membership anyway to allow us to continue with these activities. You can pay using any major credit card via this link or mail a check (made out to Phoenix Delta Zeta Alumnae) to our Treasurer, Lorna Green, at  4723 E. Voltaire Ave., Phoenix, 85032.
Delta Zeta Phoenix & Tucson Alumnae Calendar Events

All Delta Zeta Alumnae are welcome to attend any sisterhood or event in the Phoenix or Tucson Area. Our sisterhoods are a great opportunity to meet newly graduated sisters, sisters who are new to the area, or those sisters who are just looking to reconnect.
