Civic Leaders Converge at Venture Hive To Talk Immigration

MIAMI, FL – On Tuesday, February 21, Venture Hive hosted Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Congressman Carlos Curbelo, City of Miami Commissioner Francis Suarez, members of the local press, and our community of entrepreneurs for a timely event to highlight the entrepreneurial spirit of Miami’s immigrant community. A televised press conference was held to bring attention to the importance of immigration to Miami’s economy, the need for sensible immigration reform policies, and to recognize several immigrant company founders within the Miami community such as Marcos Amadeo (Asombro Extremo, Argentina), George Estrella (Raw Shorts, Dominican Republic), Antoine Forest (Stargazer, France), Etienne Gillard (Waleteros, Belgium), Andrea Macario (Kweak.ly, Italy), and Alfredo Vaamonde (PRX Control Solutions,  Venezuela).
 
This event is part of a national effort led by the New American Economy (NAE). The organization touts more than 500 Republican, Democratic and Independent mayors and business leaders supporting immigration reform. NAE members include mayors of more than 35 million people nationwide and business leaders of companies that generate more than $1.5 trillion and employ more than 4 million people across all sectors of the economy, from Agriculture to Aerospace, Hospitality to High Tech and Media to Manufacturing.

Venture Hive Entrepreneurs

ORLANDO - Florida Governor Rick Scott hosted the 2017 Jobs Summit in Orlando on February 2-3, 2017 and brought together business, education, economic development and community leaders from across Florida. Topics discussed included how to keep bringing new jobs to Florida and ensuring positive statewide economic development.

Governor Scott was quoted saying, “The 2017 Jobs Summit will connect business, education, economic development and community leaders to discuss the best ways to bring more jobs to our state.”

Venture Hive resident entrepreneurs Steve Calle (Co-Founder and CEO of Snow Lizard Products) and Matthew Levenson (Founder and CEO of Moocho) were among four business leaders recognized during the two-day jobs summit.  Steve and Matthew were awarded Governor’s Medals for their work in building companies that have positively contributed to the rapidly growing Florida economy. Congratulations to Matthew, Steve, and the other recipients of the Governor's Medals!

10x10KCuba Entrepreneurs Receive Training at Venture Hive

MIAMI - Venture Hive was proud to host recipients of the 10x10kCuba startup competition. The organization's primary focus is to help talented programmers and entrepreneurs in Cuba by providing competition winners with the resources and means to advance their businesses. The culmination of 10x10KCuba programming is to have winners come to the United States, and this year, Miami was among several other destinations across the United States for Cuban entrepreneurs to visit.

Leaders at the forefront of Cuba's growth and development in the entrepreneurial space, which includes the Cuba Emprende Foundation and #CubaNow, have teamed up with well-known names in tech such as 500 StartupsTechstars, and Stanford's School of Engineering to develop this highly impactful initiative. Venture Hive is grateful for the opportunity to have worked with an amazing group of young and aspiring entrepreneurs. Six participants visited Venture Hive each afternoon, for a 5-day entrepreneurship workshop, hosted by local experts through a series of guided activities, case studies, and lectures on topics such as sales strategies, digital marketing, funding principles, bootstrapping, etc. Throughout their time in Miami, 10x10kCuba winners visited local companies, co-working spaces, and local institutions of higher learning to understand the Miami ecosystem and the resources available to local and foreign entrepreneurs. Venture Hive is grateful for the opportunity to have hosted 10x10kCuba winners and wish them the best in their continued efforts to be leading new waves of entrepreneurs and technologists in Cuba!

Venture Hive Prep Student is going to MIT!

MIAMI - It is with great excitement that we highlight the success of a Venture Hive Prep program student! Ivan Shestopalov, a high school senior at School for Advanced Studies – Wolfson Campus, earned admission to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Ivan has chosen to attend MIT and begin his collegiate career in Boston where he plans to study computer science. Venture Hive wishes Ivan the best of luck as he blazes a new trail at one of the country's most preeminent STEM and research institutions. We are proud of the work Ivan does as he learns essential principles of entrepreneurship and equip themselves to be future leaders, innovators, and problem solvers. Congratulations!
 
Venture Hive Prep programs for high school students involve a year-long immersive program tailored for high school juniors and seniors to learn entrepreneurship principles through project-based, instructor, and individual-led learning experiences and structured internship programs to add practical life-skills that complement academic learning objectives of the traditional K-12 learning model.  Venture Hive is proud to call Miami-Dade County Public Schools a partner in this endeavor to bring entrepreneurship education to students from all walks of life and areas of Miami-Dade County.

Venture Hive visits MENA and Africa

Dr. Susan Amat was a keynote speaker and attendee at the Egypt Entrepreneurship Forum on March 6, 2017. In addition to speaking at the Forum, she will be involved with a high-level meeting with Egyptian policy makers around trade and logistics and entrepreneurship development.

Dr. Amat was also recently named to the international board for Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) and will be attending their conference in Johannesburg, South Africa from March 13-17, 2017.

A PANEL DISCUSSION REGARDING
EARLY STAGE CAPITAL
FOR ENTREPRENEURS

The MIT Enterprise Forum of South Florida will be hosting a panel discussion on March 30, 2017. Come listen to a panel discussion featuring 4 professional investors in early stage businesses. Hear what models they use to invest in, support, and help grow the companies they work with.  Most high-growth start-ups are fueled by capital – product development, staffing, go-to-market. There are many avenues for raising capital and an increasing number of unique investment models available for entrepreneurs to pursue. 

Andrew Heitner, Founder, and Director of Alcon Partners will be moderating the discussion. Panelists will include German Montoya (Co-Founder and Chief Strategy & Creative Officer at Rokk3r Labs), Thomas "Tigre" Wenrich (CEO at The LAB Miami), Melissa Krinzman (Managing Partner of Krillion Ventures), and Jeff Toewe (Athenian Venture Partners).
