Final Assembly @ Lab Central

It was truly a day for celebration.   The Final Assembly on March 9 was a huge success!  Whether you participated at LabCentral in Cambridge, Massachusetts or virtually from the comfort of your home or school, thank you for sharing your team's journey with the BioBuilder community!

To recap, each team gave a "lightening talk", a 1-minute talk accompanied by 1 slide which summarized their project.  We then had 2 poster sessions during which electronic poster boards displayed team projects.

Here is a link to the presentation which includes all of the lightning talk posters.  You may also view the full team posters on this Dropbox link.

We heard so many positive comments from attendees, saying how impressed they were with the students - both their capability to take on such in-depth projects, to their ability to communicate what they had learned.

Thank you for your participation in BioBuilderClub!  We are so grateful to have such an amazing community of teachers, mentors, and students!

Study:  "Active learning increases student performances in science, engineering, and mathematics"

In this interesting study, the authors looked at the impact of active learning in STEM courses versus traditional lecture methods.

"To test the hypothesis that lecturing maximizes learning and course performance, we meta-analyzed 225 studies that reported data on examination scores or failure rates when comparing student performance in undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses under traditional lecturing versus active learning."

The results showed that students in classes with traditional lecturing were 1.5 times more likely to fail than were students in classes with active learning.  Read the full study here.

BioBuilder's mission seeks to fill the need for more active learning!
