Approved: 2017 Business Plan & Budget

City Council has passed the 2017 Business Plan & Budget, which includes a 3.09% tax increase: 2.09% residential tax increase for City services and 1% increase dedicated to Barrie’s infrastructure. Highlights include the reconstruction of Morrow Road and Mapleview Drive East, neighbourhood renewal projects to address aging infrastructure in some of Barrie’s oldest neighbourhoods, and Centennial Park Expansion completion. Variety of employers attending upcoming job fair

Hosted by the City and Barrie-area Employment Ontario service providers, a job fair on Wednesday, March 8th, will see upwards of 40 employers hiring for positions such as manufacturing, retail, hospitality, health services, administration and more. All employers are hiring for permanent or contract employment (no temp positions or agencies). Get event details.

Only rain down the storm drain!

Storm sewers collect rain and snow melt that runs off rooftops, streets, parking lots, and driveways. This water is not treated, so anything that the water picks up as it travels to the storm sewer will end up in our natural environment. The City has several Source Water Protection measures to prevent our water from becoming contaminated, but you can help by keeping contaminants away from catch basins!

Registration open for rec programs & leagues

Registration for the City’s 2017 Spring/Summer recreation programs and sports leagues is now open! With hundreds of programs and a variety of leagues to choose from, you’re sure to find the right fit for you to stay active and meet like-minded people. Copies of the Recreation Guide are available at City Hall, Barrie Public Library branches, and community centres.

Overnight on-street parking restrictions continue

Though we’ve (thankfully) seen a few glimpses of spring, the Overnight Parking By-law is in effect until the end of March; on-street parking is not permitted 12:01–7am December 1 – March 31 on most Barrie streets, and 3–6am within the downtown area (note: there are many downtown off-street lots). This ensures that any required winter maintenance can be undertaken.
