Peoria's City Hall has made it to the Final Four in a nationwide competition for Most Beautiful City Hall. It is currently a close race between Peoria and Pasadena, California, and the City needs your help to advance to the final round. Voters can use smart phones or desktop computers to cast their vote; leave a comment while you're there to earn Peoria extra points. Today is the last day for voting, so spread the word and help Peoria City Hall win the honor of most beautiful city hall in America! The Kim Group announced a new development at the corner of Prospect Road and Kelly Avenue in Peoria Heights. 4500 Prospect Development, a three-story, $5.25 million project, will feature a mix of retail, restaurant and office space—including an outdoor rooftop section ideal for a potential restaurant client. Construction is already underway, with businesses expected to open later this summer or fall. Stay tuned: more details to come.
Easterseals Central Illinois will again join forces with Jersey Mike’s Subs for the annual “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign. Throughout the month of March, customers can make a donation to Easterseals at the East Peoria restaurant. The campaign will culminate in Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 29th, when the restaurant will donate 100 percent of the day’s sales to Easterseals Central Illinois. Nominations for the Women to Women Leader Luncheon Awards, presented by the Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Illinois, will open on Tuesday, March 7th. Awards will be presented in the following categories: Business or Professionals; Education or Arts; Community Service; Young Women’s Service (a scholarship given to a high school senior); and Emerging Leader (a new award honoring a young woman between the ages of 25 and 40). These awards recognize local women who best exemplify excellence in their chosen professions and a commitment to the success of other women. Nominations are due by April 21st and can be submitted online at communityfoundationci.org.

The League of Women Voters of Greater Peoria will present “Alternative Voting Systems That Illinois Should Evaluate” at 6pm. Edward Burmila, assistant professor in Bradley University’s Political Science Department, will explain the vote-by-mail system used by Washington and Oregon, which does not require polling places or election judges, as well as California’s “top two” primary voting system. Thursday, March 2nd @ Bradley University
High school students and their families will have an opportunity to learn about more than 90 colleges and universities from 13 states during the third annual Peoria Area Regional College Fair from 6 to 7:30pm in the Renaissance Coliseum. Friday, March 3rd @ Bradley University
The 2017 Super Brain Summit, a daylong conference showcasing two internationally known experts in the fields of neuroplasticity and neurotherapy, takes place from 8am to 6:30pm in the Michel Student Center. The theme for the event is “Brain Neuroplasticity: Necessary Conditions for Brain Growth and Change,” and it will feature a range of distinguished speakers. Saturday, March 4th @ Peoria Civic Center Ballroom
A Sunny Day – Champs and Cheerleaders invites kids of all ages to an afternoon of fun to benefit Children’s Hospital of Illinois from 11am to 1pm. Entertainment will be provided by former Harlem Globetrotter Curley Boo Johnson and musical performer Julie K. Guests are encouraged to dress in their favorite team gear. Money raised will go toward building a Peoria branch of Almost Home Kids, a transitional home for children with complex health needs. Monday, March 6th @ Noble Center, Lakeview Park
The Peoria Park District will host a Camp Open House for parents and children to learn more about its many camps. Parents can visit with camp coordinators, ask questions, register their children and have an opportunity to win a $100 camp gift card.
