VOICES Committee Members

We welcomed our VOICES Committee for a face to face in Edmonton on March 1. The VOICES committee is a consultative group that provides advice to TREC from a patient, resident, caregiver, and family member perspective. During the lively and productive meeting the committee developed an action plan for the upcoming year.

SCOPE wraps up in Manitoba
Set to expand in Alberta and BC

The SCOPE project has officially wrapped-up in Manitoba! Over the course of a year, unit based teams of 5-6 staff members worked to improve one of three clinical areas: 1) Improving resident behaviours, 2) Reducing pain for residents, or 3) Increasing mobility for residents. All seven teams came together in February to showcase their hard work at the final Celebration Congress.

Improving nursing home care through feedback
An update on the INFORM trial

INFORM (Improving Nursing Home Care through Feedback on PerfoRMance Data) is a pragmatic randomized controlled trial currently underway as part of TREC. INFORM aims to increase the use of research findings by managers in long-term care homes. The trial is testing three ways of providing feedback to managers and their teams with the goal of improving context as well as resident care in the homes. In early November 2016 the INFORM investigators held the study’s first set of support workshops.

Welcome our new Managing Director

We are excited to welcome Dr Charlotte Berendonk in her new role as Managing Director of TREC. Charlotte has a long career in gerontology and gerontological nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in long term care homes in Germany before beginning her graduate studies. She has a PhD in Gerontology from the University of Heidelberg. Charlotte's postdoctoral research at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta, focused on the development of a life story intervention to improve the quality of life and quality of care for persons living with dementia. She is familiar with running clinical trials and has experience in university trust funded environments. Charlotte has a positive history with TREC, having successfully coordinated the first year of the Advice Seeking Networks study. She is looking forward to her new role and collaborating with the TREC researchers, stakeholders and staff.

Findings from Advice Seeking Networks Survey

|
Published in the journal Implementation Science, the paper provides an overview of the results of the study survey. Led by TREC researcher Dr Jim Dearing of Michigan State University, the team constructed maps of personal networks composed of individuals who are seekers and/or sources of advice, and an organizational network composed of LTC facilities that serve as models of care.
