Wednesday 1 March

Welcome

Cyber Safety Week Wrap-up
We were very glad for the opportunity to speak into a range of cyber safety issues for students and parents last week.  The messages communicated through lessons, drama, film, chapels and eNews were well-received.  We were delighted to even have the opportunity to spread the message out to the wider community via the weekend and online editions of the Sunshine Coast Daily.  It is our sincere hope that our students are better informed and safer as a result, and that parents are empowered to take charge of technology in the home.  If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to read the materials sent out last week, can I encourage you to do so in the near future.  It really is that important.

Parents Prayer Meeting
I am delighted to invite parents to join the newly formed Parents Prayer Meeting which will be held every Wednesday at 2:30pm in the Suncoast Church Boardroom (located at the rear of the Church Auditorium on the far side).  Prayer is one of the most fundamental and important disciplines of the Christian faith and we are encouraged in the scripture to pray continually, and to bring our requests to God with thankfulness.  The mission of the group is to support College staff, students and the wider school community by gathering to pray. Everyone is welcome – you don’t need to be a prayer expert.  The first meeting is today, Wednesday 1 March.  For more information, contact the coordinator Kristie Roach on 0402 034 272.

Car Park Etiquette

Students safety is our first priority!  Each afternoon we have approximately 800 students leaving the campus in cars and buses within a fifteen-minute timeframe.  Parents/Guardians, please abide by the road safety rules within the College campus.  Here are three main ones to remember:

  • 10km per hour speed limit
  • Give way to all departing buses - in order for the College buses to leave the car park as quickly as possible in the afternoons it is vital that all vehicles give way to the buses.  Delays in the car park have a flow-on effect to the bus runs and to every parent/guardian waiting at pick up points across the coast.
  • Drop off and collecting students in the allocated areas

Please refer to your Parent Handbook for further information on road safety.

Your Kids: Are They Rhubarb or Beans?

For a long time I thought that parents shaped their children. I believed that we coached, mentored and disciplined them into the adults they eventually become. I now wonder if that is correct.

If I was such a key factor in making them who they are, how did they end up so different from each other? If my spouse and I were shaping them, did we have any of these shapes in mind?

I now see that our role as parents has been more of a gardener than a craftsman.  Read More
