The Asheville Kiwanis Club meets for lunch, a business meeting and a guest speaker from 12-1:30pm each Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, off Merrimon Ave near downtown.

  • There were 18 members present at our meeting today.
  • Kiwanis Visitor Day will be next week, March 7th. Please try to bring at least 1 person with you to the meeting who may not know about all the good things Kiwanis does.  We will share a little bit of our history, as well as information about the current projects we do in the community. If you are bringing a guest, please let Tony know or reply to this email.  Pastor Chris Webb of St. Mark's Lutheran Church will be our guest speaker.  He will be speaking about his service to Children of the World. 
Welcome back Dale and Walt!  We've missed you!
Peggy shows a couple of the Scholastic books we purchased to give the Terrific Kids at Vance.
Several of us took a "field trip" to the new Asheville Museum of Science to see what they do.They are still under construction and currently are in a "soft opening", but there is still lots to explore, and admission is 50% off!  Programs are offered for Pre-K to "gray"!  Visit their website for more information.

We have over 350 runners registered for our race on May 21st.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. You can print out forms to give potential sponsors here.  Cindy will be putting information about the race on Facebook.  When you see it, please share it with your friends.

Speaker Spotlight
 
Jenny Bunn, the marketing director at Asheville Community Theater, spoke to us today.  She brought Amelia and Asher with her.  
  • ACT was founded in 1946.  They are in their 71st season of producing plays in Asheville .
  • Charlton Heston was the first director of ACT and directed 7 shows.  
  • They have been in their current location since 1972 
  • They are currently out of space, and are doing a 3 phase renovation and expansion project which will expand programming, enhance customer amenities, increase earned income potential, serve more children and create jobs.
  • Their goal is 4.3-4.7 million and they are at about 45% of their goal.
  • ACT is the top ranked theater in Asheville on Trip Advisor with a comment of  "Better than Broadway!"

  • March 7 - Visitor Day!  Bring a guest who may be a potential member. Our speaker will be Pastor Chris Webb from St. Mark's Lutheran.
