ARE THINGS REALLY OKAY?

Something I experience over and over with my work with management - in helping leaders grow themselves and their team…
When things are seemingly okay, a belief settles in that indeed things are really okay?!?
This may seem confusing, but ponder for a moment will you.  Just because the place is not on fire, no major employee issues, no obvious conflict disrupting things – this does not mean all is going well.  Likely it is actually headed back ‘into the well’.

I see leaders and management teams overcome some significant ‘people issue’ through – attention paid to people,  meaningful conversations, a little trust-building, some focus on relationships, caring attitudes by leaders,  routine discussions of expectations and accountability,  etc.

Asking each other how things are going and getting ‘fine’ answers is not leadership my friend!

All the efforts, time, resources expended and dynamics it took to fix stuff are slowly abandoned and over time (because things seem to be okay) - we are headed to troubled-waters again without even knowing it until....!

‘INSANITY: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.’

Real Learning Leaders realize ‘all that stuff’ it takes to fix things, is precisely what needs to happen all the time.  Holler if I can help you unpack all this and put solid leadership practices into place.
COMMUNITIES (and/or WORKPLACES):

As I have begun efforts with my hometown in a possible pursuit of the Mayor role - I wrote this (below) recently to the community.  It then struck me how much this should apply to any organizational culture.  Is this a culture that exists within your workplace or company?

“……We must become a community where we...

1) See people outside of their homes
2) Smile and wave at one another
3) Attack problems vs people (relationship intact...)
4) Reach out to neighbors and friends and go sit together for a drink or a meal (I know there isn't much but we need to first become a place where investment makes sense)...
5) Get out of our homes
6) Continue to work together and help each other succeed despite differences
7) Support each other personally and professionally
8) ....Visitors 'see people' when they come to visit
9) Don’t look down and away, but look at people greeting them (anxiety of interacting with other people is killing our society)
10) Socialize - 'Build it (& us) and they will come'

*If you spot me driving or walking and not waving or saying HELLO, catch me, will you!?! We must fix 'us' first... In my business-profession as well as in personal-life, I have come to realize we as a society tend to try to fix things and then work on the relationship...
'Relationship must come first' - trust the Coach on this my friends!.........”
REAL LEARNING, TEACHING and LEADERSHIP:

A great quote (taken from BRAINYQUOTE.COM) that has so much to do with the dynamics of leaders and the required skills of Leaders: Ownership, Consensus, Change Management, Facilitation, Problem-solving, Dec-Making, Continuous Improvement…
