LVPEI’s 146^th Vision Centre at Vedayapalem, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh was inaugurated on 17 February 2017. Capital support is by RayBan Sun Optics India Pvt Ltd, and rent free premises are provided by Swarna Bharath Trust. The ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) Ulcer program was initiated by the Tej Kohli Cornea Institute on 24 February 2017, under the leadership of Dr Prashant Garg. Twenty centres participated, including tertiary, secondary and partner centres (C L Gupta Eye Institute, Moradabad; Ahooja Eye and Dental Institute Gurgaon; and Shroff Eye Center, Delhi). This is an ongoing program that will

The Ophthalmic Photography Workshop, 6-10 February 2017, was conducted by Christye Sisson, Director, Rochester Institute of Technology, in partnership with the University of Rochester Medical Center. The workshop was attended by more than 25 participants from across the LVPEI network. The course was designed to include research as well as routine clinical photography of the external eye, and anterior and posterior segment imaging of the internal eye.

Navya Deepthi Davara, 4^th year student at Bausch & Lomb School of Optometry (BLSO), won the India Vision Institute (IVI) Young Optometry Researcher Rolling Trophy for her project ‘Eye Tracking in visual search experiment in normally sighted adults’ on 16 February 2017 in Chennai. Click for images

Kiran Kumar Vupparaboina, Technical Lead, Srujana Center for Innovation - Engineering Group, has won the India Travel Award to attend the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Annual meeting, 7-11 May 2017 at Baltimore, USA.

Dr Mayank Mahajan has been selected as Fellow of the Indian Academy of Young Scientists.

Three of Gattu Naresh’s pictures have been accepted as ‘Honourable Mentions’ at the Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society Exhibit at the forthcoming ASCRS-ASOA (American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery – American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators) Annual Symposium and Congress in Los Angeles; 6-9 May 2017.

NOROP (Neonatologist Ophthalmologist Retinopathy of Prematurity) team has been formed in Adilabad as a collaboration between LVPEI and Raihan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Adilabad. The team conducted the first ROP screening at the RIMS Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on 6 February 2017, besides organizing an ROP Awareness Talk to about 100 pediatricians and medical students.
