Pollite named Winner for Micro Exporter of the Year at the PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards 2017!

We are delighted to announce that Pollite have won Micro Exporter of the Year at the PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards 2017. Managing Director, Adrian Harrison and Sales and Business Development Manager, Richard Landsbury collected the award on behalf of the company at a ceremony at the Leeds Marriott hotel, UK.

The Northern Powerhouse Export Awards 2017 celebrate excellence in international trade across the North of England. They reflect upon PD Ports firm commitment and investment in supporting export growth to drive economic prosperity across the North of England. They recognise that exporting and international trade remain central to the UK’s economic growth agenda and these awards honour those emerging wealth creating companies that are selling their products and services overseas in international markets.

The Micro Exporter of the Year award was searching for a company that achieved export growth through sales and market penetration and Pollite proved they are the perfect candidate for the award. They were seeking a company who used innovative market strategies to extend their export potential; and that’s exactly what we did.

As a small business, we have had to be strategic in the territories and countries that we target. Over the last 3-4 years we have worked hard to break into historically, a highly protected market, and now can boast of completed jobs in each of the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) amongst others.

Some notable projects in 2016 include Jan Mayen (a remote island in the middle of the Norwegian Sea), St Helena, Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Azores.

This is a true David and Goliath story. As a small, privately owned business, we have managed to create a completely new product, break into a very closed, safety conscious market to become a highly respected, thought leader in the industry with a presence in over 60 countries. We have literally taken every opportunity possible to break into the export market. We did not let the size of our competitors faze us; in fact we used it to our advantage. Managing Director Adrian Harrison said,

“It’s taken a tough skinned, innovative approach and lots of blood, sweat and tears to reach this point in such a short period of time but we are enormously proud of what we have achieved and have set our sights even higher for the future.”

Pollite provides Approach System to one of the World's Most Remote Cities

Recently, Pollite provided Perth with an approach system for the airport which is Australia's 4th largest. We worked with ADB Safegate to upgrade the airport's lighting infrastructure allowing for Category III landings.

Perth Airport is situated on the country’s western coast and is blessed with clear weather almost all-year-round. However, it’s also one of the most isolated airports in the world, so when it suffers from one of its 10 or so days of fog per year, the diversions for airlines and passengers are extreme. Upon bad weather conditions international flights need to divert to Adelaide in South Australia which is more than two hours away.

So, this project arose in order to weather proof the airport and give it a full CAT III upgrade which would reduce the burdened costs of fuel, transportation and hotels of stranded passengers that are accumulated in bad weather diversions. The project will be completed in 2018 and will incorporate 3800 lights to to ensure that the complete airfield is compliant to CAT III conditions at all times.

An aircraft will then be able to land in low visibility conditions to a distance of 50m, down from the current 800m. Perth Airport will soon be capable of offering its airlines and passengers a seamless integrated flow that will lead the way in to the future for the capital city airports in Australia.

Qantas to launch first direct flight from UK to Australia.

Qantas have confirmed that they are set to launch a non-stop flight from London Heathrow airport direct to Australia’s Perth airport. The flight is set to launch in March 2018 using the latest Boeing 787-9 jet. The airline confirms that the 9,010 mile journey will take 17 hours; taking into account extra flying time to avoid dangerous airspace.

Currently, the most direct route from Perth to London crosses the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka, follows the western coast of India, and passes over Iran, the Caucasus and the disputed Crimea region. Back in 1947, when Qantas created the “Kangaroo Route” between the UK and Australia the journey involved nine stops and took four days.

In recent years the Australian airline has changed its European network, removing a Heathrow-Perth route that stopped via Asia to refuel. Qantas now operates only two flights from Britain going daily from Heathrow to Melbourne and Sydney via Dubai. So, a London-Perth route would complement these links.
Alan Joyce, chief executive of Qantas, said:

“This is a game-changing route flown by a game-changing aircraft. Travellers from Europe have never had a direct link down under before, so the opportunities this opens for them to explore Australia are huge.”

Qantas have said that passenger comfort was a key consideration for the 7 hour flight and claimed that the airline is “redesigning our on-board service to help reduce jetlag”. The planes will carry 236 passengers in Business, Premium and Economy cabins — and will be fitted with a crew rest area above the passenger cabin.

Timings for the new link have not been revealed. It is thought there may be an early evening departure from Perth, arriving around noon next day in London, which would allow plenty of time for transfers at either end. The return flight would then take off from Heathrow around 3pm, arriving late afternoon the next day in Perth, in time for onward connections.

When the route launches, it is expected to be the third-longest passenger flight in the world and seats for this extremely long-haul flight will go on sale in April 2017.

Lamborghini Huracan becomes ‘follow me’ vehicle at Bologna Airport

Italians are very proud of the vehicles they produce and rightly so, they are among the world’s finest when it comes to supercars. Following this, when an airport is built in areas such as Bologna, Italy, it tends to enjoy certain advantages. With that in mind, international travellers and staff are now being welcomed to the city with a Lamborghini Huracan ‘follow me’ vehicle at the airport.

The car has been designed by the firm’s in house Centro Stile design facility and since entering service late last year has been continuing to turn heads.

The attention magnet effect of the supercar has been immense, as even those who happen to be familiar with the Raging Bull's V10 weapon have plenty of reasons to throw a glance at the mid-engined vehicle.

The livery incorporates a bright yellow paint scheme along with a black chequered pattern and a silhouette of the city’s skyline on the doors. It is then complete with the obligatory light bar and really stands out on the runway.

Any pilot being tempted to give in to his or her car-loving urges and thus risking getting distracted can simply follow the naturally aspirated voice of the Lambo, meaning safety advocates have no reason to fret.

In a straight line, the Huracan can exceed the take-off speeds of even the largest current commercial airliners. This isn’t the first time a current Lamborghini model covers such duties; a similar event that took place back in 2013 involving the Aeroporto di Bologna welcoming an Aventador.
