Arrow   New eLearning Package Launched

A new eLearning package to help healthcare professionals in Primary Care carry out physical health checks on patients with a serious mental illness (SMI) is now available following its launch at the Yorkshire & Humber Academic Health Science Network’s Innovation, Improvement & Impact Conference.

The eLearning module is a free, easy to use training package designed to fill a training gap and give primary care professionals the confidence to address the physical health of people with a serious mental illness.

Developed in collaboration with experts in the field of mental and physical health, the eLearning package will highlight some key physical health risks, demonstrate how health professionals have a role to play in addressing these issues and give practical advice on the use of the Physical Health Review template now available to primary care practitioners through the national SystmOne and EMIS platforms.

Kate Dale, from the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN, commented: “We know that use of the Physical Health Review template provides a real opportunity to improve the life expectancy and quality of life for people with a serious mental illness.

“This new eLearning package will help support healthcare professionals to not only increase their own knowledge and expertise but will benefit the health of patients under their care.”

The eLearning package is available through the Yorkshire & Humber AHSN website and access is via a simple registration process. The module should take between 30-40 minutes to do and a CPD certificate is available upon completion.
