Welcome to the latest edition of the Research IT newsletter! Available each month, the newsletter is focused on keeping University of Manchester researchers up to date with news that directly affects their research activities including new resources, training and events. 
We also want to hear from you - the research community - so please send us news stories or events that are of relevance to researchers across the university or details of your research success stories!
The next edition of the newsletter will be published in April.

New Research IT Grant Support Clinics

                                    
Research IT are launching a new series of sessions where you can discover more about Research IT, the skills and services that we offer and - most importantly - how to include them in your grant proposals.

Research Infrastructure Expertise Available

                             

Our Research Infrastructure team has a wealth of experience in building and supporting computational platforms, storage, VMs, Web servers and a wide variety of custom local infrastructure for research groups.  We are planning to expand the team in order to provide research groups with dedicated support from individuals. If this is something you would be interested in then please let us know!

Mathematica Summer Workshop 2017

                                                         
Research IT, in conjunction with other regional universities, is gauging interest in a Mathematica summer workshop to be held in Manchester.  It would feature an introductory session, hands on workshops and a "teaching and learning using Mathematica" day.  If this is something that you would be interested in attending please get in touch to register your interest.  

Research IT Club Presentations Now Available         


        
The presentations from the recent Research IT Club are now available.  Find out the latest news from our RSE and Apps Support and our Infrastructure teams as well as plans for the UoM Research Lifecycle Programme. 

EPSRC Directly Funds Manchester RSEs

                                            
Find out how Research IT helped Prof Phil Withers in the School of Materials to secure funding for two Research Software Engineers (RSEs).  If you would like to know more about RSE support for your research projects please contact us.

R Users Club Meeting

                     
The next meeting of ‘R at University of Manchester’ (RUM) will be held on Monday the 13th of March, at 11:00-12am in The Congregation, Vaughan House. RUM is open to all staff and students using R at The University of Manchester, providing an open and relaxed forum for R users of all levels to exchange ideas and knowledge.
Research IT Training
Research IT run a series of hands-on and online training courses which provide skills for researchers to further enhance their research. Our recently announced courses are:
  • Introduction to High Performance Computing and using CSF/DPSF - 11th April
  • Introduction to the UNIX shell - 20th April
  • Introduction to version control using Git - 9th May
  • Automation and Make - 6th June
