Identity and Choreographic Practice Conference

The conference will explore the struggles for visibility and recognition that some practitioners face within their chosen field. Panel discussions will examine the challenges and triumphs faced by Black dancers when attempting to break the glass ceiling of classical ballet. For the conference we welcome as keynote speaker, Joan Myers Brown, founder and artistic director of PHILADANCO.

Lost Legends Website Launch
Lost Legends have launched its website which features on the Serendipity website a Media Archive including audio clips and videos, alongside an artist’s directory, and a blog with archival information stories and photographs donated to the project. Find out more about Black History Month events and details from past African Caribbean Citizens Forum leaflets, and the story of Louise Katerega and her performance DNA: Destiny’s Natural Ally choreographed by Sheron Wray for BHM 1999, and legacy that this performance posed for dancer Louise and to other performers in Britain and South Africa.

The International Association Of
Blacks In Dance Receives
$500,000 Mellon Foundation Grant

The grant is part of the Foundation’s Comprehensive Organizational Health Initiative, designed to strengthen the organizational health of small and midsize arts institutions through comprehensive financial analysis and capacity building financial support.

Philip Herbert composes
score for award winning short film.

Philip Herbert was recently commissioned to write a score for an innovative short film, The Future, directed by Italian film maker Enrico Poli. The film was just awarded 1st Prize at Italian Film Festival - Visioni Italiane 2017 (Bologna, Italy) in the category ‘Visioni Acquatiche’.
