Sunday's Message

Preaching - Gary Strickland

Gary's biography from the Sioux Falls Seminary website:

The childhood of Gary Strickland was so steeped in church life that he once preached to his neighborhood from his front yard.  Using a child-sized ironing board as his pulpit, he boldly proclaimed the good news to anyone who would listen.

In many ways, Gary’s spiritual journey was defined by his family.  His maternal grandfather was a Baptist pastor and his first model for vocational ministry and his grandmother was the embodiment of saintly living.  That same heritage was very much alive in his parents as they lived out their faith personally and publically.  Although he started preaching as a young child, Gary didn’t feel the call to ministry or the desire to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps until high school.

After living out his calling for 28 years in a church setting, Gary relocated from Mauldin, SC, to Sioux Falls, SD, in July 2007 to pursue his passion for teaching.  Looking back on his wide variety of practical experience and educational opportunities, Gary believes God was preparing him for this passion.  Now, as the Professor of Pastoral Care and Director of the Doctor of Ministry program, he shares what he learned as a pastor with others who are in training for pastoral ministry.

Ash Wednesday - Tonight

Plan on joining us for our special Ash Wednesday service tonight at 7:00 pm.

2017 Lent Devotions

Pick up your copy today of the Lent Devotions we will read together as a church family.  It is called "Jesus and the Gospels".  We also have a family oriented devotion for those with younger children called "A Sense of the Resurrection".  They are both located on the Welcome Table.
Mark you calendars to stay after church on Sunday, March 12th for a short Church Family Meeting.  We will be updating the congregation on the Search Committee process and voting in the members of the committee.

Adult Sunday School

The Adult Sunday School class have started exploring The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis.  It's a fictional work about a busload of people from "Hell" who get to take a vacation in "Heaven" and stay as long as they like... or get back on the bus to return.
It's about 130 pages.  Each chapter is basically a parable centered on of one of the people encountering Heaven and their choice to stay or not.

David Bergan will be leading the class in the Fireside Room.  He will read a chapter or two each week with discussion time for the group.  Please order a book for yourself ahead of time as we will not have them available at the church.  We have included a link below to Amazon.
