Information Meeting on Rhodes, Marshall, & other Competitive International Fellowships

The Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships are among the nation’s best known and most prestigious awards for U.S. undergraduate students.  Less known, but equally prestigious, are the Gates-Cambridge Scholarship, supporting graduate study at Cambridge University, and the Mitchell Scholarship, which supports study in Ireland, and the Schwarzman Scholars Program, which is based in China. Spring marks the beginning of the application season for these highly competitive postgraduate UK Scholarships.

An information meeting about the UK and other international fellowships will be held on Friday, March 3 from 12:10- 1:00 p.m. in 1151 Jischke.

Competitive candidates for these awards will have exceptional records of leadership and academic achievement. Students graduating between now and Summer 2018 are eligible to apply this year, as are recent graduates -- but it is never too early to be aware of these opportunities.  If you are interested in knowing more, come and learn about the fellowships and about the elements of a strong candidacy.

The meeting will offer information on the scholarships, application procedures, and the process by which ISU selects candidates.  More information is available at  http://www.honors.iastate.edu/scholarships/scholarships.php

Apply for Phi Kappa Phi money

Each year, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards $345,000 to members entering their first year of graduate study. If you are a graduating senior that is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and has earned less than 10 graduate hours (currently enrolled hours do not count), then encourage them to apply for a ΦΚΦ Fellowship to help fund their graduate education!
Check out this video, to hear from a former Phi Kappa Phi Fellow. For more information, read the Fellowship FAQs or download the Fact Sheet. You’ll also find many helpful resources on our website, including Advice to Applicants, Sample Personal Statements and Sample Work Samples to share with your students.
Interested applicants will submit their materials to their local chapter by their local deadline. The chapter will then submit one nominee to the national competition by April 15, 2017.

AICGS Transatlantic Exchange Program

AICGS is pleased to announce the continuation of its German-American youth exchange program on the theme “Immigration, Integration, and a New Transatlantic Generation,” which was inaugurated in 2015. For 2017/18, AICGS is recruiting twenty young leaders from academia, media, business, politics, and society with little or no experience with transatlantic relations for seminars and site visits in Washington and Berlin.

Activities comprise a seminar and site visits in both cities over the course of 4-5 days. Participants at the seminar will engage in small groups and interact with leading experts from umbrella organizations dealing with immigration and integration, government, research institutions, and political foundations. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit other institutions, including cultural/historical sites, offices of elected representatives, and non-profit associations that focus on issues of the underrepresented.

Selected participants are required to take part in both sets of events. The first takes place in Washington, DC from October 15-21, 2017 and the second in Berlin from May 13-18, 2018. Travel, accommodation, and most meals will be provided for the participants by AICGS.

Applications are due by April 1, 2017. For more information, please visit http://www.aicgs.org/employment/aicgs-new-transatlantic-exchange-program-for-young-minorities-giving-voice-to-future-leaders/
