SPRING PROGRAMS START
SATURDAY, APRIL 15, 2017

JUNIOR ROWING PROGRAMS

Under 19 (Junior) – A rower or coxswain shall be classified as a Junior competitor until the 31st of December of the year in which he or she reaches the age of 18. After that date the rower shall be classified as an Under 23 rower.

Mic Mac AAC Junior Rowing programs are recommended for ages 12-18, although 11-year-olds who are at least 56″ tall or weigh at least 70lbs will be accepted.

JUNIOR PROGRAMS - SPRING 2017


JUNIOR LEARN TO ROW / JUNIOR RECREATIONAL ROWING

This program is for youth who would like to learn to row for the first time, or have completed a Learn to Row program at MicMac AAC, or equivalent program from another club and would like to continue rowing for fun and fitness. This program will prepare youth interested in participating in the Junior Summer Rowing Camps being offered in July and August 2017. The program will include sculling and sweep-style rowing in large and small boats. All rowing equipment is provided. The focus of the program is to provide an opportunity for youth to be active outdoors while working together with their peers to build and improve their rowing skills.

Practice Sessions: June 1-27, 2017
– Tuesdays (June 6, 13, 20, 27) at 4:00PM*
– Thursdays (June 1, 8, 15, 22) at 4:00PM*
*program start time will be determined amongst registered participants to accommodate school ending times / bus schedules.
Program Fee: $100, including all RCA Sport and Row NS fees


JUNIOR COMPETITIVE

This program is for participants aged 14+ with at least one season of rowing experience, who wish to train to compete at local, national and international level regattas. Participants in this program train up to 6 times / week on the water, plus additional self-directed strength, flexibility, and cross-training. Sessions at the beginning of the season may be indoors depending on water temperature and weather conditions. Participants are responsible for funding their attendance at regattas and a club racing uniform. 

Full on-water season (“ABC”): April 15-October 31, 2017
Practice Sessions:

– Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 4:00PM
– Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:45AM
– Saturdays at 9:00AM
Program Fee: $575, including annual RCA Competitive ($50) and Row NS ($10) fees. Register for this program and save $110 versus registering for each season separately ($50 off total program fees, plus inclusion of the RCA and Row NS annual fees).

Spring (“A”) Only: April 15 – May 31, 2017
Practice Sessions:

– Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 4:00PM

JUNIOR PROGRAMS - SUMMER 2017


JUNIOR LEARN TO ROW / RECREATIONAL SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM

The Junior Learn to Row and Junior Recreational Rowing Summer Camp program is a week-long day-camp format. 
  • Full Day Option: arrive by 9:00AM, depart at 4:00PM
  • Morning Only Option: arrive by 9:00AM, depart between noon-1:00PM
  • Afternoon Only Option: arrive between noon-1:00PM, depart by 4:00PM
  • Optional Early Drop-Off at 8:00AM, Late Pick-Up until 5:00PM
Participants may register for any number of weeks (i.e. just one, or up to all seven). During their first week(s) of camp, participants will complete a Learn to Row curriculum. The Learn to Row option will be available all weeks except for Week 3. Returning participants will be grouped with other returning participants to continue to build their rowing skills. After one week of Full Day camp, or two weeks of Half Day camps, a participant will have completed the Learn To Row (LTR) curriculum and will transition to the Junior Recreational (Rec) program. These are offered in the same camp for the same fee, just different coaches and programs. A typical day at camp will include: 2 rows/day including large and small boats with a combination of sculling and sweeping; activities and lessons including nutrition, general fitness, cross-training, swimming, outdoor adventures, fun and games, and hands-on opportunities to learn and play with friends. All rowing equipment is provided, and youth should bring clothing suitable for being on the water (shorts/t-shirt/socks) and dry-land training (running shoes). They should also bring a change of clothes in case of inclement weather, lunch, snacks & water.

Seven weekly camps will be offered in 2017:
  • July 3-7: No camp
  • Week 1: July 10-14 – LTR, Rec, full-day, and half-day. Max 16 participants.
  • Week 2: July 17-21 – LTR, Rec, full-day, and half-day. Max 16 participants.
  • Week 3: July 24-28 – full-day, Rec only. Max 8 participants.
  • July 31 – August 4: No camp
  • Week 4: August 8-11 – LTR, Rec, full-day, and half-day. Max 16 participants.
  • Week 5: August 14-18 – LTR, Rec, full-day, and half-day. Max 16 participants.
  • Week 6: August 21-25 – LTR, Rec, full-day, and half-day. Max 16 participants.
  • Week 7: August 28-September 1- LTR, Rec, full-day, and half-day. Max 16 participants
Camp Fees:
  • $160/week full day, $90/week half day (AM or PM)
  • For each participants first program joined in 2017, additional annual membership fees for Rowing Canada and Row Nova Scotia totalling $25 will be added to the invoice
  • Optional: Early Drop-off 8-9AM for $20/week, Late Pick-Up 4-5PM for $20/week. Please confirm via email in advance if you would like this option. 
  • Payment for Early Drop-Off / Late Pick-Up can be made via cash on the first day of the camp.
  • Early Bird Registration Discount: $20/week  full day, $10/week half day if registered and paid by May 1, 2017.

U23 / SENIOR ROWING PROGRAMS

Under 23 (U23) – A rower or coxswain who is no longer a Junior shall be classified as Under 23 until the 31st of December of the year in which he or she reaches the age of 22. After that date, the rower shall be classified as Senior.

Senior – A rower or coxswain who is 23 years or older during the calendar year in which he or she is competing.

Ages for U23, Senior, and Master's Athletes overlap. Athletes aged 23+ who are progressing along the Canadian Sport 4 Life Athlete Development Pathway towards high performance are classified as Seniors. Athletes aged 21+ who identify as Active / Fit / Competitive for Life are classified as Masters. The "Master's / Adult Rowing Programs" section below outlines the program options available for Masters.

U23 / SENIOR PROGRAMS -

SPRING / SUMMER 2017


UNDER 23 / SENIOR RECREATIONAL

This program is for participants aged 18-29 who have at least completed a Learn to Row program. Training is focussed on fun, improving overall fitness, and further development of sport-specific skills. The program is for athletes still building towards, or not interested in training for competition. Six sessions are offered weekly and participants can join up to three of these each week. This program is offered in late spring / summer only.

Practice Sessions: May 1 – August 31, 2017
– Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 4:00PM
– Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:45AM
– Saturdays at 9:00AM
Program Fee: $325, including annual RCA Sport, and Row NS fees. Participants in this program who wish to upgrade to RCA Competitive status in order to compete at regattas will need to register for the membership upgrade from RCA for an additional $35.


UNDER 23 / SENIOR COMPETITIVE

This program is for participants with at least one season of rowing experience, who wish to train to compete at local, national and international level regattas. Participants in this program train up to 6 times / week on the water, plus additional self-directed strength, flexibility, and cross-training. Sessions at the beginning of the season may be indoors depending on water temperature and weather conditions. Participants are responsible for funding their attendance at regattas and a club racing uniform.

MASTERS / ADULT ROWING PROGRAMS

 
Master – A rower may participate as a Master from the beginning of the year during which he or she attains the age of 21. Master’s Age Classifications:
  • AA age: 21-26
  • A  age: 27-35
  • B  age: 36-42
  • C  age: 43-49
  • D  age: 50-54
  • E  age: 55-59
  • F  age: 60-64
  • G  age: 65-69
  • H  age: 70-74
  • I  age: 75-79
  • J  age: 80 and over

Ages for U23, Senior, and Master's Athletes overlap. Athletes aged 23+ who are progressing along the Canadian Sport 4 Life Athlete Development Pathway towards high performance are classified as Seniors. ADULT PROGRAMS - SPRING 2017


ADULT INDOOR ROWING

This program is designed for:
– non-rowers who would like to learn to safely use and improve their fitness using indoor rowing machines
– non-rowers that would like to get experience indoors on rowing machines before learning to row on the water
– returning rowers that would prefer to stay indoors until water and weather conditions are warmer
– returning rowers that would like to supplement their on-water training with indoor training
Multiple workouts will be offered each session tailored to the goals of each participant.

Practice Sessions (April 18-May 31):
– Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:00PM
Program Fee: $100, including RCA Sport Rower and Row NS fees.


ADULT RECREATIONAL

This program is designed for adults with at least one season of rowing experience. The focus is on fun, fitness, development of rowing skills, and self-improvement, and is for those who want to participate in the sport in a non-competitive, relaxed environment. Spring training sessions will be conducted indoors until water temperature reaches at least 11 degrees C. On-water sessions will be in both large and small boats, sculling and sweeping.

Full on-water season (“ABC”): April 15-October 31, 2017
Practice Sessions:

– Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6:00PM
Program Fee: $575, including annual RCA Sport ($15) and Row NS ($10) fees. Register for this program and save $75 versus registering for each season separately ($50 off total program fees, plus inclusion of the RCA and Row NS annual fees).

Spring (“A”) Only: April 15 – May 31, 2017
Practice Sessions:

– Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6:00PM
Program Fee: $150, plus annual RCA Sport ($15) and Row NS ($10) fees.


ADULT PRE-COMPETITIVE

This program is intended for participants:
– Coming from an Adult Novice or Adult Recreational program, or equivalent
– Coming from the Fall 2016 Mic Mac AAC Adult Pre-Competitive program, and not yet ready to progress to Adult Master’s Competitive (please consult with a coach to confirm)
At least one season of on-water rowing experience is a prerequisite for this program. Recommended for Adult athletes with little or no racing experience in rowing that would like to start racing in 2017.The focus is on further development of rowing skills and fitness, with an introduction to racing skills such as rowing at higher pressure and rates, starts, in order to compete as a Novice athlete at the Icebreaker Regatta in May 2017

Adult Pre-Competitive Master’s “A” Program: April 15 – May 31
Practice Sessions:

– Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00PM
– Fridays at 5:45AM
– Saturdays at 7:00AM
Program Fee: $150, plus annual RCA Competitive ($50) and Row NS ($10) fees. Participants are responsible for funding their attendance at regattas and a club racing uniform.


ADULT COMPETITIVE

This program is for adult athletes who want to train and compete as “Master’s”, in addition to fun and fellowship. Participants must demonstrate a commitment to performance, be highly self-motivated, and be able to commit to the demanding schedule of training and competing. Participants are responsible for funding their attendance at regattas and a club racing uniform.

Full on-water season (“ABC”): April 15-October 31, 2017

ADULT PROGRAMS - SUMMER 2017


ADULT LEARN TO ROW GROUP LESSONS

This introductory rowing program is 6×2-hour lessons over a 2-week period. It is for adults who want to try the sport for the first time. Participants will receive both dockside and on-water instructions. They will learn about safety, equipment, terminology, and the basic elements of a rowing stroke, both sculling and sweeping. All rowing equipment is provided. Participants should dress in light layers of clothing suitable for being on the water, and bring a change of clothes and a water bottle. Upon completion of the LTR program, participants can continue rowing in the Adult Novice Program. $50 of the LTR fee will be credited towards the Novice Program fee.

Session A: May 29-June 11
Practice Sessions:

– Mondays May 29 and June 5 at 6:00PM
– Wednesdays May 31 and June 7 at 6:00PM
– Sundays June 4 and June 11 at 4:00PM

Session B: May 30 – June 11
Practice Sessions:

ADULT LEARN TO ROW PRIVATE LESSONS

Over 6 sessions, adults 19 or older will learn the basics of sculling. Participants will have a good understanding of rowing equipment, balance, grip, boat handling and safety procedures, steering, and how to leave / enter the dock area. Once completed, Participants can register for the Adult Novice Rowing Program. Registrants will be partnered with a trained coach, and the timing of the 6 sessions will be determined directly with the coach. The first session must not be prior to the water temperature reaching 11 degrees C (typically in mid-May). It is recommended that sessions be scheduled over a 2-3 week period, however the sessions will remain valid until October 31, 2017.

Practice Sessions: to be determined directly between participant and coach
Fee: $250


ADULT NOVICE

The Novice program is for first year adult rowers who have completed a Learn To Row program. In this program you will continue to learn and progress your rowing and boat handling skills, with a focus on fun and fitness. Participants who completed a Learn to Row program in previous years at either Mic Mac AAC or another club may also join this program.

June 12 – August 31 (or upon completion of your 2017 Learn to Row program)
Practice Sessions:

– Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 6:30PM
Program Fee: $325 (a $50 credit will be applied to the cost of this program, if the participant completed a Learn To Row program at Mic Mac AAC in 2017)


ADULT RECREATIONAL

This program is designed for adults with at least one season of rowing experience. The focus is on fun, fitness, development of rowing skills, and self-improvement, and is for those who want to participate in the sport in a non-competitive, relaxed environment. Spring training sessions will be conducted indoors until water temperature reaches at least 11 degrees C. On-water sessions will be in both large and small boats, sculling and sweeping.

Full on-water season (“ABC”): April 15-October 31, 2017
Practice Sessions:

– Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6:00PM
Program Fee: $575, including annual RCA Sport ($15) and Row NS ($10) fees. Register for this program and save $75 versus registering for each season separately ($50 off total program fees, plus inclusion of the RCA and Row NS annual fees).

Summer (“B”) Only: June 1 – August 31, 2017
Practice Sessions:

– Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6:00PM
Program Fee: $325, plus annual RCA Sport ($15) and Row NS ($10) fees if not already paid through a previous program in 2017.
