Countdown to Crew Classic! The San Diego Crew Classic is one of the biggest races of the rowing season! We will have Juniors and Adults Competing in this event at the end of March in San Diego!

Faultline Faceoff

There were 390 entries this past weekend at the Faultline Faceoff from 21 different rowing clubs!

NAC Jr. Rowing entire team headed up to Northern California to compete with all the best crew team in the state. Even though our crews were still in mixed boats, the NAC Jr. Rowing showed our competitors that we are a force to be reconnected with as we head into the racing season.

Varsity Boys: The weekend was a great test of speed after a hard winter of training but not without several challenges in the form of last minute illnesses that lead to a number of crew changes. Despite the "shake-ups" the varsity boys came away with the strongest team performance of the weekend. Of note, the lightweight four won by 5 seconds over the defending national champions in the event (NorCal Crew). The JV8+ posted the fastest times of the day in their event during both flights and the only boats with faster times were from our own V8+, along with Marin and Oakland, making our JV's faster than almost every other team's top boats. The Varsity Boys ended up with (7) Gold (6) Silver & (1) Bronze medals.

Novice Boys: The NAC novice boys showed how much the learned and how hard they have been working this winter. They completely dominated as a team and coming home with the highest winning percentage of any individual team at the regatta. Our boys also showed their tremendous depth of athletes in on their team. An example of the is the N8+ B boat recording faster times than all but two N8+ A boats, making our N8+ B faster than almost every other team's top boats. The NAC Novice Boys ended up with a record (7) Gold & (2) Silver medals.

Varsity Girls: Our varsity girls went into this race with a strategy of not showing their real speed at this early stag in the season. Instead, their focus was on rowing with more power at a slower rate. When other crews were rowing at a 37 strokes/min our NAC varsity girls were down closer to a 30 strokes/min. This strategy should serve them well as they continue to get stronger and faster as the season progresses.

Novice Girls: The NAC novice girls showed their mussel and solid technical skills across their entire squad at this regatta. They also showed an impressive depth of athletes as they saw success through out their entire team. Notably, the girl's Freshman 8+ recorded the best time among all the novice girls crews. The NAC Novice Girls ended up with  (4) Gold, (4) Silver & (1) Bronze medals.

Lanakila Classic 2017
The NAC Junior Outrigger Team had a great race over the weekend up in Redondo Beach where the team had 18 entries in the open ocean courses, all in small craft boats (one mans or two mans)! This race is known for having rougher conditions at their location, but all the juniors persevered and pushed themselves to place in their races.
The NAC Junior Outrigger Team definitely left with some hardware:
6 First Place Finishes
3 Second Place Finishes
1 3rd Place Finishes
The Adult Outrigger Programs are also still racing year round and making an impressive showing at the races as well! For this particular race, a lot of our adult paddlers raced twice in both the 5 mile course and then ten mile course.

International Junior Outrigger Racing
Over the past two months, there have been multiple training camps at the NAC for all of California's top Junior Paddlers. With a panel of coaches, including NAC coaches, they are working on training for one of the most prestigious races of the year. The IVF World Distance Championships in Tahiti! NAC Juniors, and juniors from all over CA, have been working hard, putting in hundreds of miles and hours in the weight room. We will keep you updated as teams are selected and crews are put together!

The race is 12 mile distance race in Tahiti where crews from all over the world compete. California is sending ONE crew for Juniors, Open and Masters to compete against countries such as Canada, China, New Zealand and more. Each designated area is allowed 1 entry for each division for both boys and girls. Hawaii is their own area, as well as the East Coast of the US .
Kids ages 11-18 learn the basics of rowing. This two day camp for students is a great introduction to the sport for those interested in joining NAC’s rowing team and those that want to try a fun sport. Participants will be taught boat safety and handling, introductory stroke technique and the importance of rowing as a team.
