Dance Fever
Dance Fever starts on 13th of March.  It is being held in Term One this year to fit in with the schools we compete against.  It is an exciting event and an important part of our Arts Curriculum programme.  This programme is subsidised by the school and parents are asked to make a contribution towards covering the cost of bringing our coaches over from Australia.

Matariki Choir
If your son or daughter love to sing, and are in Year 4-6, this is an opportunity for them to be a part of the Matariki Choir Festival held at Wairau Intermediate at the beginning of June. Target Road School joins with Sunnynook, Forrest Hill and Wairau Intermediate to sing up a storm!  Our Kapa Haka group will also perform.  It is a great night.  See Mrs Templeton to join up.  (We will meet at morning tea time on Friday to see all who are interested.)

Lucky Book Club
Last day for book orders are due to the school office on Thursday 9th March.

LEARNING AT TRS THIS WEEK:
Harmony and Hannah with their finished konae/2 cornered kete

Room 13 Learning
Room 13 have been learning about asking questions.  First we found out how a question is different to a statement.  Next, we learnt about open and closed questions.  Today we have been writing our own open and closed questions.

Our inquiry is about Turangawaewae and we are learning about our ‘Hapori Whanau’. (All the people that we meet and interact with in our community)

Walking School Bus Week:
Schools across New Zealand were celebrating our Walking School Bus and having fun events to encourage students to walk to school, or part of the way to school.  Our new Travelwise ambassadors orgnaised our Funky Feet/Crazy Hat Day on Tuesday.  There were some very original ideas for hats!!

The winning classes were announced at the end of the day.  The winning class in the seniors was ROOM 1 and there was a tie in the juniors between ROOM 15 and ROOM 10.
The Big Walk
We are going to have our ‘Big Walk’ next Friday instead of this Friday as we are having all our school photos taken this week.  We would like as many children as possible to walk to school or part of the way to school.

Our Travelwise Ambassadors for 2017 are:

          Zoe (Y4 Rm5)                       Charlie (Y4 Rm5)                 Phoenix (Y5 Rm1)
James (Y5 Rm2)                   Leah (Y6 Rm3)                     Caeltyn (Y6 Rm6)

Our Travelwise Ambassadors are setting a great example by walking to school.

Patrol Training and Refresher
On Tuesday, Constable Nicholas came and gave our patrol monitors a refresher course and also trained a few students that missed out on training at the end of last year.  She was extremely impressed with the ability and decision making of our monitors.  She felt they were coping extremely well with the task of patrolling on such a busy road.  The new patrol roster is out today.
Keep safe this week! Christine Templeton (Deputy Principal)
Year 3 Community Walk
This Term at Target Road School our whole school Inquiry Learning focus is “Turangawaewae” which means “the Place where I stand”.
The learning context for Rms 9,10,11 is our place in the wider community.
On Wednesday of this week these classes and Room 4 and 5  had the opportunity to listen to a Town Planner, Mr Alan Johnson who came to speak to the children about the local infrastructure of our area -  considering how decisions are made around what goes into a community, where and why . The children asked him questions such as “ Why are things and places where they are? What does a community need? What do Town Planners have to consider? What do children need in our community?”
Today the students in Rooms 9, 10 and 11 went for a walk around our local community to explore it’s infrastructure and to develop their understanding further around focus concepts of our study inquiry.
Knitting Club
We are starting a knitting club for interested Year 4-6 students.  We are in search of knitting needles for our club to practice on (preferably size 5 and up) and any spare or unwanted wool that you may be willing to donate to us.

If you are interested in joining the knitting club or donating supplies, please see Miss Harris in Room 14.
SPORTS

TARGET ROAD SCHOOL NETBALL 2017
Netball meetings have been held for any students in Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 who are interested in joining a Target Road School team this year.  Permission slips were included in the information notice that was handed out at the meetings.  If your child is permitted to play, please return the permission slip to the school office promptly.  I am going to begin organising the teams next week.
If your child missed the meeting, he/she will need to see me tomorrow in Room 10 to receive a notice.
Pam Rowlands

Touch Tournament Update
Unfortunately the touch tournaments that were to be held later on in March have now been postponed until term 4, much to the disappointment of our students.

Cricket
On Wednesday 1st March two cricket teams represented Target Road School at the Takapuna primary schools cricket Tournament held at Onewa Domain.
Both teams showed determination, skill and sportsmanship ‘on the field’, and their behaviour ‘off the field’ was exemplary.
The Green team succeeded in coming second overall, and the yellow team 6th.
A great day was had by all, even though the weather at times wasn’t the best.
We would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Mr Christianson for giving up his time and coaching our teams, and to the parents who kindly gave up their time, to transport and support our students.  Also to Carol Hannah for the awesome photos.
Well done to both teams, we are proud of you and what you achieved.
The Green cricket team who came second overall.

The Yellow Team came 6th overall.

Diving
On Saturday Rosemar’y Clark from Room 2 won silver and bronze ribbons at a diving competition.  The competition was at Westwave. Rosemar’y is proud of her achievements.  She has been training at the Glenfield pool with Carmen and one day wants to be an Olympic diver or a diving coach.
