This is a fun issue.  We're unveiling more details on our 2017 Playbook events in Toronto and Vancouver, and introducing a new blog on IEC 60601-1 from Bjarne Hansen.

Bjarne's 2013 blog on Inexpensive prescreening strategies for medical device EMC compliance is still one of our most read blogs. His new blog so impressed our QA/RA reviewer, they recommended it become required reading for all new engineers.

If you haven't booked your ticket for the Playbook 2017 events on March 30 in Toronto or April 4 in Vancouver, check out the short video below with highlights from last year's speakers in Toronto.

As always, thanks for reading and join us in Toronto or Vancouver for a day you won't forget.

Sincerely,

Scott Phillips
CEO

Electrical engineer’s overview of IEC 60601-1

Sorting through the alphabet soup of the many standards that apply during medical device development can be daunting. StarFish Medical follows standards that regulate our processes and others that regulate our products. For example, our processes are driven by the requirements of ISO 13485 and the US FDA cGMP, while the products we design are regulated by FDA 510(k) and PMA requirements, IEC 62304IEC 61010-1, and many others.

One product standard we deal with frequently is IEC 60601-1 Medical Electrical Equipment - Part 1: General Requirements for Basic Safety and Essential Performance. I've distilled its essence to help readers understand where some of our design decisions come from.
