FOC Updates


FOC Issues Joint Statement on Human Rights and the UN GGE


From February 20-24, the 2016-17 United Nations Group of Governmental Experts on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security (UN GGE) held its third session in Geneva, Switzerland.

To further FOC efforts to promote human rights online, the Coalition issued a joint statement calling upon the GGE experts to build on the stance of previous GGE reports and emphasize the central importance of respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms for the maintenance of international peace and security.

FOC member Estonia to host EuroDIG 2017 - registration now open


This year the European Dialogue on Internet Governance will take place in one of the FOC member states. Estonia is going to host the 10th anniversary of EuroDIG 2017 in Tallinn on 6-7 June. Registration is now open on the EuroDIG website, here.

EuroDIG is an open multi-stakeholder platform to exchange views about the Internet and how it is governed. Culminating in an annual conference that takes place in a different capital city, EuroDIG ‘messages’ are prepared and presented to the UN-led Internet Governance Forum.

FOC WG1 Workshop | Internet Freedom Festival, Valencia, 8 March


FOC Working Group 1 will be workshopping their recommendations for human rights-respecting cybersecurity policy  at their session "Practical implementations of human rights respecting cybersecurity policy" at the Internet Freedom Festival on 8 March at 14:30 local time. The recommendations have the support of 30 governments and dozens of civil society and private sector members. Participants in the session will assess government and corporate sector policies against these recommendations in order to understand the ways in which the norm-setting recommendations can support internet rights advocacy. 


FOC-hosted discussion on network disruptions | RightsCon, Brussels, March 30


Join members of the FOC on Day 3 of RightsCon at 10:30 local time as they present the forthcoming FOC joint statement on network disruptions and participate in a frank discussion about this global trend and its implications for human rights. This event is part of AccessNow's #Keepiton Summit. The time of the session is still to be confirmed. More information about RightsCon available here.


FOC Working Group 1 Workshop | RightsCon, Brussels, March 29


FOC Working Group 1 invite you to participate in a constructive discussion on the need to adopt more shared and rights respecting approaches to cybersecurity, and practical steps as to how such approaches could and should be implemented. The session will take place on Day 1 of RightsCon at 16:00 local time.
