EDITORIAL
Hace muchos años que la educación dejó de ser una sala de clases en la cual el maestro hablaba y el alumno escuchaba y escribía, en la que el profesor sólo tenía como recurso una pizarra y tiza y en la que el estudiante utilizaba sólo un libro, un cuaderno y algunos elementos que llevaba en su cartuchera. Hoy es mucho más que eso, los tiempos han cambiado y junto con ellos las teorías pedagógicas, las metodologías, los recursos y muchos aspectos que rodean la educación.
La Institución Internacional SEK se caracteriza por estar siempre a la vanguardia en temas educativos, evolucionando permanentemente y avanzando a la par con los tiempos y el desarrollo tecnológico. En SEK Los Valles la innovación en sus actividades es parte de este proceso y la semana pasada los alumnos pudieron vivir de manera concreta la enseñanza desde planos diversos, creativos y lúdicos.
El Tech Day y el Hip Hop Contest, actividades realizadas hace unos días atrás, son una muestra clara que se puede enseñar en ambientes distintos, integradores, actuales y motivadores, utilizando dichos recursos de manera positiva y valiosa.

Throughout centuries, philosophers, scientists, teachers and therapists have recognized the place of music for therapeutic and developmental functions. Many find certain magic at the time when combining language and music for didactic purposes because both are two ways that human beings use to communicate and express themselves through sound.
The last four weeks students and teachers at Sek Los Valles have been participating in an intense but very productive learning experience through which students stated their voice to spread feelings, beliefs and thoughts regarding crucial issues: the environment, the peace, and the human rights. Creating songs by means of language enhanced their creativity, promoted their critical thinking skills, and let them use literature in context. In other words they were able to confirm that life is a song and love is the music.
It was again confirmed what the remarkable poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, wrote once “Music is the universal language of mankind.”

LA DANZA, UN ESTILO DE VIDA

¿Qué me motiva de la danza? Más bien la pregunta que siempre me hago es, ¿qué no me motiva de la danza? Este arte es la manera más perfecta que encontré para hallarme a mí misma, me permitió conocerme, comprenderme y, a la vez, compartir la sonoridad con tantas mujeres que tengo a mi alrededor, que se han convertido en mi familia.
La danza es la máxima expresión de feminidad, de plasmar la historia y el arte de hace miles de años atrás. Me motiva sus pasos, su música, sus ritmos y la manera tan linda de expresar que he encontrado lo que necesito en mi vida. Puede que suene muy hiperbólico, pero una vez que encuentran lo que realmente les hace feliz los paradigmas y las emociones quedan cortos a la descripción.

TECH DAY

Technology is a huge part of our life today. It binds us with the rest of the world and gives us access to all types of knowledge and information. At SEK Los Valles School, we celebrate the Tech Day in which each student brings their devices and the classrooms turn into interactive spaces.
By using different resources like internet or virtual reality, we could access to countless learning opportunities. The lessons become games and other didactic activities; this motivates the students to learn in a fun way. The use of technology in the classrooms can promote an open mind to a world that is constantly advancing.

In SEK Budapest Preschool a large part of our learning experiences are based around celebrations and the performing arts wether it be for Christmas, Spring or like our Grandparents Day celebration last week. These celebrations provide a great motivation to be creative and become aware of what is required to create something special.
Last Wednesday the P2 Preschool class visited Budapest's most special performance Hall, the Budapest Opera to see how their performances are created on a grand scale. The children soon found out there that their permeances were very similar to ours but on a much grander scale.
It was an amazing experience!

CHILDREN NEED TO BE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE

We are all aware of the benefits of physical activity and the need to be physically active throughout our lives. In children it is vital that they develop a positive attitude towards exercise as they need to be active every day to promote healthy growth and development. Children who establish healthy lifestyle patterns at a young age will carry them and their benefits forward for the rest of their lives.
Children should be encouraged to develop endurance, flexibility and strength. Activities can be lots of fun and they do not have to be competitive. Help your children choose the right activities. Ask your child if they want to be part of a team or do an individual activity. Parents need to guide their children as to how often they participate in activities in order for them to have fun and keep motivated.
Physical activity promotes:
- Healthy growth and development
- Better self-esteem
- Stronger bones, muscles and joints
- Better posture and balance
- A stronger heart
- A healthier weight range
- Social interaction with friends
- Learning new skills while having fun
- Better focus and concentration during school
A great way to help parents and children begin being active is to join your local Park Run. It is lots of fun and everyone is welcome.

USEK AYUDA A DAMNIFICADOS DEL SUR DE CHILE

El pasado viernes 27 de enero, en solemnes ceremonias realizadas en el Monasterio de Guápulo, campus Juan Montalvo de la Universidad, se graduaron más de 336 alumnos de las Maestrías en Seguridad y Salud Ocupacional, Maestría en Administración de Empresas y Maestría en Gestión Ambiental.
En el acto, el Dr. Algora , Rector de la Universidad, procedió a tomar juramento a los graduandos mientras que el Dr. Rafael Cortés, Vicepresidente de la Institución SEK para el área de Universidades, fue el encargado de dedicarles un emotivo discurso, en donde además intervinieron el Mg. Anibal Arcos y la Mg. Marcela Rhor, como mejores graduados de su promoción.
Una vez más, la Universidad Internacional SEK cumple así con su misión de formar profesionales preparados y dispuestos a contribuir al desarrollo del país y la sociedad.
