Book Club

The Spring Fox Book Club meeting will take place on Tuesday 14 March and we’ll be discussing "The Lost Thing" by Shaun Tan. This is the first time that we’ve chosen a picture book as our focus and we’re really excited about the rich discussion possibilities. Please read it, look very closely at the illustrations and come ready to share your ideas with other children and parents/carers from Years 5 and 6. The text is available in bookstores, in libraries and online.
As always, there will be refreshments to keep you going.

See you at Book Club!

St Anne's Update

Year 1 Weekly News

Year 1 have had a fantastic week! The children have loved World Book Day! Their costumes have been very creative and we have spent time talking about our favourite stories and reading poems and books to each other. The children wowed us with their poetry recital of The Magic Box by Kit Wright. They all spoke in a loud, clear voice and expressed themselves with creative actions!

In PE, the children have been playing basketball. Miss Johnson has been very impressed with their basketball skills. They have also been showing great listening and concentration! In History, we have started our new unit on Toys. The children spoke about their favourite toys and described their toys using exciting adjectives.

Year 2 Weekly news
This week, Year 2 have really enjoyed writing an information text on Florence Nightingale. As part of World Book Week we also created front covers and turned our writing into a book! We loved seeing the children really helping their partners to edit their work and were so impressed with how well they were supporting each other. In numeracy, we had a very exciting start to our division unit when we looked at the book 'The Doorbell Rang' to start thinking about division as sharing and then we created our own sharing problem with biscuits! The children even applied their new knowledge about sharing to some word problems and used excellent full sentences with the correct language. We loved talking about all the different book characters the children dressed up as today and enjoyed reading some books together as a class.

Yrs 1 & 2 Spelling Workshop

We will be  holding a spelling workshop for parents in Year 1 and 2 on Wednesday morning, 8th March.  The session will explore the progression from phonics to spelling from Year 1 to 3 and the best ways to support your child with learning their spellings at home.  The session will begin at 8:35 am in the lunch room at Fox.  Children of parents attending this session can join breakfast club on arrival, free of charge.  We look forward to seeing you there.
School Nurse

Bedwetting Workshop

In response to parent interest our school nurse, Nadine Powell, will be leading a parent workshop on bedwetting at 9am on Tuesday 28th March. She will provide practical advice and support on how to deal with night time toileting accidents and on helping children to move on from pull-ups.

BAME

Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME) History week from 6th to 10th March.

A focused Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME) History Week provides us an opportunity to celebrate BAME culture, history and achievement. This also complements our work on the issues of prejudice and racism. We will explore the concepts of identity and belonging through a range of mediums such as dialogue, drama, texts, music and art. During the week, the children will enjoy lessons, activities, trips and workshops specifically linked to Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic themes.

As always, we hope to welcome special guests to share their experiences and answer the children’s questions. In the past, Fox parents have suggested suitable people amongst their own friends and acquaintances willing to act as such guests. These people would be black, Asian or ethnic minority role-models (for example, people particularly successful in a given field) who would be comfortable talking to the children about their work or achievements and answering their questions. In addition, this year, we would like to hold some BAME family history sessions. If you are available to come in and speak for 15 minutes about your family’s background and history, we would love to hear from you. You are welcome to bring along photos or any other relevant props to illustrate your talk.

Poetry Competition entries

My dream is to be a singer and an actor on stage
I have written it down on a blank page
This is my dream, my goal, my vision,
Documented here, a definite decision.

I can see myself glowing in Charlie’s chocolate factory,
This would be a glistening sweet sanctuary,
This is my life, my place, my sunshine,
Anticipating taking my curtain calls in lines.

The perfect, precious palace is my home in Alladin,
I can’t wait to shimmer and dance and sing,
This is my hope, my peace, my starlight
This world beyond will be a dazzling, bright flight.
