Tree planted in memory of "lovely, gentle" student

A magnolia tree has been planted at the front of West Hatch High School in memory of a "lovely, gentle" student.

Nadiyah Chaudhri died on February 3,aged 17, following a long illness and many operations.

She had spent almost five-and-a-half years at the Chigwell school and would have currently been a Year 12 Lower Sixth student.

Tributes were paid by her family and school friends at the tree planting and dedication which was led by Rev'd Ian Monks this morning.

In a citation, the school said: "Nadiyah may no longer be with us in person but will always be in our hearts.

"Nadiyah fought hard until the end and was a brave and courageous young lady. She was the kindest and sweetest girl who lost her father a few years ago yet came to school with a smile on her face every day.

"Nadiyah never complained and just got on with life. She chose to stay here in the Sixth Form even though her friends had all gone to college.

"Nadiyah is an inspiration to us all and will be deeply missed by all her friends and teachers."

Headteacher Frances Howarth said: "Nadiyah was a lovely, gentle student who always thought of others.

"The magnolia tree planted at the front of the school will make sure she is remembered and is always in our hearts.

"Our thoughts are with her family and the many friends she had at West Hatch."

Nadiyah's funeral was held at the Gardens of Peace Muslim Cemetery in Hainault.
