International Womens' Day was so rich and full of love. Sometimes I do hesitate and think about the way in which we promote strong women events, but I really felt this year there was more "solidifying" than in previous years and more of an outpouring to bring our gifts and skills to the table to compliment the foundations that have already put in place primarily by males, resulting is connecting the skills of men and women whether in the workplace, the home and socially. So if this is embraced in the way that I hope it will be, it can only result in a win-win.

Dress for Success - Power of Women Awards
International Women's Day itself for me was amazing. I played a lot of music by international women on Magic Soul Breakfast, and then on Afternoons With Angie on the main Magic station. It was so lovely to engage with you, the audience, across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. In the evening I attended the Dress for Success Charity Awards event. Now.... I was informed that I had been nominated for an award (but I never take anything for granted) also I wasn't aware as to whether there were other radio ladies in the room, so I went along primarily to host the Q&A for the award winners. You can imagine my face when I ended up receiving a Power of Women Award for Services to the UK Radio Industry. It was the perfect end to the perfect day.

House of Commons - Wine Appreciation Evening
The IWD celebrations continued in the presence of Dawn Butler MP and Paulette Simpson of Jamaican National Bank who hosted a Wine Appreciation Evening in the Jubilee Room at the House of Commons - and yes I behaved myself!!!! I had given up wine for Lent but quite frankly I fell off the 'wagon' - so I hope that Jesus will forgive me. But seriously, the evening was just perfect. We didn't "drink" all night long, but "tasted" 5 fine wines, 2 red 2 white and a sparkling, and partook of some brie, parma ham and a little fruit. Many thanks to Wine Specialist, Debra Taylor, for her presentation.

Another Musical Light Goes Out
So sad to report that Joni Sledge the second eldest of the Sledge Sisters sadly passed away on Friday. Sister Sledge were in the UK just last year to undertake some promotional work and to perform at the closing of the WOW Festival on London's South Bank.
The girls spent a little time in the Magic Studios and appeared on Soul Town, needless to say, we had a laugh as we talked about their 2 passions, performing and music. RIP Joni Sledge.

On Thursday my sisterfriend Angie Le Mar will be launching her first book, 'Full Circle: Turning Your Gift Around' at Waterstones. If you are in need of inspiration this is the book for you!
On Friday I'll be attending The Telegraph Cocktail Evening - you can't beat a good Telegraph event, the last one I attended and hosted was the Hidden Figures screening.

Having received an award last week I will be presenting an award at the Amazing Women Awards Ceremony this Saturday. 'Amazing Women' is the brainchild of Roz Thornton who has a passion for acknowledging unsung heroes and women whose work has not been recognised.
I'm definitely booking a weekend retreat for the end of this month!!

Why is it so hard to say NO?
It’s an age old problem. Women are meant to be caretakers and pleasers. We KNOW about boundaries and the importance of them but it seems like we are sometimes scared to actually have them. When you don’t have firm boundaries, it means that you compromise who you are for the benefit of everyone else.

THINK POSITIVELY!
“We can't be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea. Holding onto something that is good for you now, may be the very reason why you don't have something better.”
