This Girl Can campaign:

The nationwide This Girl Can campaign by Sport England to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size and ability, returns. The new adverts see a range of new and returning faces, new messages and mantras to prompt a change in attitudes and help boost women’s confidence.

Staying true to its original formula of showing real women and girls playing sport and getting active, the message is clear: it’s OK to sweat, it’s OK to jiggle, it’s OK not to be brilliant (or to be brilliant) and it’s normal for life to get in the way sometimes.

Sport England’s ambition is still about empowering women and breaking down the barriers that are stopping women and girls getting active – and it’s now widening the scope to target women aged from 14 up to 60 and beyond.

New artwork and phrases for the second wave of the campaign, including ‘Unleash your inner beginner’, ‘A kick right in the stereotypes’ and ‘Take me as I am or watch me as I go’, have been splashed across billboards and shopping centres up and down the country in recent weeks.

The ROC 5k 2017 charity fun run:

The ROC 5K is back with a brand new route

ROC’s exciting 5K (3 mile) fun run will take place after work on Tuesday 28th June, starting and finishing at Truro’s Lemon Quay.

Last year, 500 community spirited individuals and teams took part in in a sell-out event, raising £17,000 for local people with learning disabilities.

And with a new route, this year’s entry limit has been raised to 650 and with it, the potential to become one of the largest events of its type in the West Country. People of all abilities - and disabilities - can run, jog or walk The ROC 5K. The minimum age is 11.

So get your trainers ready! For more, visit www.unitedresponse.org.uk/ROC5K2017

Worklessness, Health and Work

Click here for the February E-Bulletin produced by Public Health England South West Health & Wellbeing Team.

This regular e-Bulletin is produced by Public Health England South West, designed to keep you in touch with the Workplace agenda locally and nationally.

National Workplace Health Toolkits:

Public Health England and Business in the Community have produced a collection of national workplace health toolkits for employers. The South West has been chosen to pilot local appendices which will promote resources, services and case studies to businesses across the SW region.

The toolkits are on:
•    Mental Health toolkit for employees
•    Musculoskeletal toolkit for employers
•    Suicide prevention and postvention

It would be great to showcase some of your work around mental health and MSK. If any businesses would like to be featured as a case study in the toolkits, please contact us at Workplace Health and let us know by 28th March 2017. We’d really appreciate your input and look forward to promoting local resources and showcasing the great workplace health interventions we have here in Cornwall.

Free Health Promotion Service Training:

Businesses and Organisations across the county are taking advantage of the free training being delivered by the Health Promotion Service called “Making Every Contact Count”

Developed by the NHS, this training is of real benefit to employers and employees alike, delivering improvements in staff health and wellbeing, thus improving morale and productivity.

Those attending the training learn communication skills, understand key health messages and learn how to support colleagues, friends and family to achieve better health.

Previous attendees have expressed how confident they feel in discussing health concerns and how they gained invaluable transferable skills.

The training is offered at our offices in Pool or can be delivered at your premises and tailored to your needs.

Delivery dates can be found here or contact Indra or Carly on 01209 313419 if you would like us to arrange a bespoke delivery to your organisation.

For information on our Mental Health Awareness Training and other training available, please visit our Training website.
Cornwall Chlamydia Screening Service:

Cornwall Chlamydia Screening Service are currently offering free information and screening events to businesses across Cornwall!

Young people outside of education receive little sexual health education or information, meaning that STI testing rates are very low amongst 18-25 year olds. With young people shown to be more sexually active during these later years, it is important we find ways to target this age group.

The CCSS team arrange all screening events to suit your needs and availability, whether that be as part of a health week, attending a staff training day or attending a typical work day. They will offer sexual health information to employees as well as the opportunity to test - for men, this involves providing a urine sample, and for women, a self-taken swab.

Poor sexual health maintenance can lead to lost work days and reduced productivity through ill health and therefore should be an area of focus for employers.

If this is something of interest to your company, or you would be willing to display some information posters in staff rooms / common areas, give Olivia Dunlop (CCSS promotion worker) a call on 01872 258466 or email Olivia.dunlop@nhs.net.
