FHPPS Newsletter Week 9,  13th March 2017

Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter will be emailed every Monday to those of you on our mailing list. We would rather email to keep 'paper wise', but if you need a hard copy please let Jane know in the office and she will put one in your child's message pocket.
Please read these Monday Newsletters each week as IMPORTANT and all relevant information about the school, your children's classroom activities and the functions at the school will be written in it.
This newsletter is a very important form of communication.

Please note that all children in the Grade R Shark Class need to apply at the local Primary school for a place in their Grade 1 class for 2018. Our children are readily accepted into the Local Primary school as we have a good relationship with them and our children fulfil all the criteria and more for acceptance. We are registered with WCED, attend all the Grade R WCED workshops and follow the CAPS Curriculum but also include many other skills development opportunities.

Due to the fact that the WCED and the local schools are putting pressure on the parents to apply for their children to go to Grade R at a Primary school, the Angelfish and Starfish parents need to consider applying to the local primary schools for Grade R for 2018 within the next few weeks. It is a decision that you need to make carefully with your child in mind, but better to give yourself options than restrict your options. My suggestion would be to apply at the Primary school of your choice for Grade R for 2018 and then you at least have the option of turning it down later on in the year if you feel that it is not in the best interest of your child. (Some children do not easily cope, moving to the Grade R class at a Primary school because they are not yet emotionally ready for that more formal environment. They need to spend Grade R in our environment to grow and mature at their own pace and then will happily settle in Grade 1 the following year.)
We at Fish Hoek Pre-Primary will continue to provide a fabulous Grade R programme each year for those Starfish and Angelfish children whose parents feel that they would like them to stay at our school for Grade R and then move to the Primary school for Grade 1.
Please feel free to chat to me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns surrounding this matter.

MEASLES
It was reported by the nurses who came on Friday that there has been an outbreak of measles in the teenage age group so please keep an eye on your older children and take them to the doctor if they have these flu like symptoms.

PARENT INTERVIEWS
These will be taking place this week. Please book an appointment if you have not done so already.

AFRICA A +
Thank you for all the permission forms sent in last week.
Anya and Miriam were here and did some wonderful activities and rings with the children. The teachers and assistants observed them and had an opportunity to chat and discuss what they had seen and learnt in the feedback lesson later that day.
The videographer was here and carefully videoed, making sure only those children with permission where in any of the shots.
It was a good experience and we both learnt from each other.
This week the Principals and a member of their Board from the 3 Africa A+ school involved in this 3 year programme will be meeting here at FHPPS on Tuesday afternoon. We will be discussing aspects of the programme and sharing ideas and experiences. A wonderful networking and growth opportunity for us all.

FACEBOOK
Please note that we have a facebook page and a closed facebook group.
The facebook page is for marketing and advertising and will have school information and messages with maybe a picture or two of the staff, but no children.
The closed facebook page will have photos taken by the teachers during the day and at outings and functions.
ONLY CHILDREN WHOSE PARENTS HAVE HANDED IN THE FORMS AND GIVEN PERMISSION FOR THEIR CHILD’S PHOTO TO APPEAR ON FACEBOOK WILL BE POSTED.
If you would like to join the facebook group, you will need to be invited. We will only accept parent’s names that we know for obvious reasons, so if you have a granny for example who wants to be accepted, please let us know her name at the office so that we can accept her.

INDIVIDUAL AND CLASS PHOTOS
The photos are on display. Please return order forms by this Friday 17th March.

We are in need of newspaper and re-cycled paper for the art rooms. Please bring some in if you have any at home. Thanks!

DAD’S CAMP OUT- FRIDAY 17TH MARCH AND SATURDAY 18TH MARCH

We invite all dads to bring their tents and spend an evening with their children here at school on Friday. Sites cost R50 per family. Please pay Jane in the office this week or on the night. Braais will be available with wood and charcoal for you to braai some meat. The school will be open for toilet facilities throughout the night and hopefully Derek the coffee guy will be available too.
You will be able to set up from 5pm.
We will also have a security guard for the night watching the cars. We will approach Paul Greyling this week to see if we can park on their field as this has worked well in the past. The cars are much more secure that way.

Please don’t forget sun cream and hats for your children each day!!!! Sun cream needs to be applied at home each morning. Ingrid who is in charge of Stay and Play( aftercare) will put cream on the children for the afternoon. The children can wear any hat to school. Any hat that they feel comfortable wearing!!!
We do have school hats with the school name and logo on them if you would like to buy one of those. There are two kinds; a hat with a wide brim and a cap with a peak and a flap over the neck area. Please pop into the office to have a look at our samples and if you would like to purchase one. Jane will order one for you. They cost R60 each.

SCHOOL FEES

Please be sure that you have returned your signed fees commitment form to Jane in the office. We keep this on file and it is a commitment to pay your school fees.
We are an Independent school and rely heavily on School Fees to pay teacher's salaries and the upkeep of the school. We only receive a small subsidy from the WCED for our Grade R children.
We have bursar, Phyllis, who will be in charge of all fees and fee related issues. Please make contact with Phyllis if you have any fee related questions. (accounts@fhpps.co.za)
Sorry for the delay in sending out statements. We have started on a new system and it has taken longer than we thought to input all the data.
Statements will be available within this week.

GATE SECURITY SYSTEM

For your child’s safety, please note that we have a gate security system. Each new parent will need to have their fingerprint registered into the system, as well as any grandparents who frequently fetch the children. Jane will also have a control device, to let in visitors. We will need a few minutes of your time in the morning to register you onto the system.
Please use the bell, at the gate if you have not registered your fingerprint yet. Cards will be issued to those whose fingerprints do not register properly.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU CLOSE BOTH GATES WHEN ENTERING AND LEAVING THE SCHOOL FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILDREN!

Hello/ Molo /Goeie More
Welcome to week 9 !!!!😁
I hope each and every one had a restful weekend.
Last week the school had its last rounds of measles injections, thank you to parents for signing the consent forms.
Junior Jive came twice last week, on Tuesday and Thursday, the children were overwhelmed with excitement as they enjoy every moment with Junior Jive.
On Wednesday Anya from A+ visited our class and shared a morning ring with the children. She showed the teachers some new ideas that we could add to our morning ring.
This was very helpful and the children enjoyed Anya's visit.
On Friday we gave our little Seahorses a treat for behaving so well the past week, we let them ice and decorate their own marie biscuits...
WELL DONE SEAHORSES 🙆 🙋
Next week our theme will be changing to My Pets. I would like the children to bring any pictures of their pets this week for group discussion please.

EQ  Calming down and recapping themes for the term.
General My Body - external and internal parts.
Maths  Body parts and maths eg 2 feet, 2 eyes etc Pairs Left / right and line of symmetry.
Language Letter M mmouse, mat mouth etc
I will be handing out reports this week thank you for making an appointment to see me. Please be prompt as I need to keep to the time allocated to each parent.
EQ Last week we started discussing things we have done this term to help us be self-smart, people smart and body smart at school and at home. We spoke about sharing and taking turns at school and how we help one another at snack time and tidy up time. A few children shared how they help at home by feeding the pets, drying dishes and making their beds. This week we will continue to discuss ways to calm down and ways to respond when things go wrong. We stress the importance of getting an adult to help resolve problems and to not respond physically. If children do respond in a physical manner we discuss their emotions, how they felt and better ways to resolve problems.
Thank you for sending a photo of your child as a baby and a photo of your family. If you have not yet sent a photo please send them in this week. We will compare our bodies at different ages- baby, child , teenager adult, grandparent. If your child has broken an arm or leg please let them bring the X-ray for the children to see.  The children have found the theme interesting. They know the external parts of the body but have enjoyed learning about their bones, brain, heart and the other organs. They have enjoyed looking at books and finding the various bones on Billie Bones the skeleton.
They enjoyed the various art activities and loved making faces out of play dough. We printed around a body template and the children had to design their own clothes. We discussed patterns- stripes, checks, florals etc. This was linked to our maths theme of patterns and sequences. We also linked maths by comparing our body part to shapes we have learned eg the eye is looks like and ovoid but when we see it from behind it looks like a sphere. We linked number to body parts eg 2 eyes, legs arm and 10 fingers- 5 on each hand 5+5= 10.
Language Letter M m .The children who are bringing objects for the table are really showing an interest in the Letterland programme and in learning the letter.  They enjoy comparing the different object brought and we match objects that are the same. We then count how many objects are the same and link the concept of more and less to it. I urge all of you to start helping your child to do their "homework" and bring things for the table.

IQ  Theme: Pets.
Hello!
Hope you all had a great weekend. We will be discussing the theme Pets for the following 2weeks. Please encourage children to bring books or posters or anything relating to this theme. George(our class mascot ,he is a teddy) has started his adventures. He will be sent home with a different child every Friday for the weekend. Thank you so much for putting so much effort into George's book. The children really look forward to seeing what he has been up to. The children have been split up into their micro group. Peaches, Apples and Grapes. It is something for them to get used to but they have been very good at trying to remember their group. On Friday we had our mom's and dad's dress up. The children looked lovely and were very chuffed to be dressed up as their moms and dads. Thanks for the effort.  I will be having parent interviews Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15. Please check notice board and choose a time slot that suits you. It is important that I see all parents. Please remember to send in your photo order form as well as the money by Friday the 17th.

Hello everyone. Hope you had a lovely weekend.
This week we are on the sense of touch. We will be doing a lot of tactile activities, help children to use their sense of touch to determine what the object is and how does it feel.
Walk with your child barefooted on dry grass, sand etc and chat about the sense of feel. Children will learn which body parts go with which senses. Help them name all five senses.
Just a reminder: Parents interviews on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If there are any changes please let me know.
Thank you!
Have a great week!

FACEBOOK
We love sharing pictures from the school day. Teachers only put photos up on Facebook once a week. Any parent who does not want their child’s photos to appear on Facebook should let their teacher know. www.facebook.com/fhpps.

And on that note...

“There is more to a boy than what his mother sees. There is more to a boy then what his father dreams. Inside every boy lies a heart that beats. And sometimes it screams, refusing to take defeat. And sometimes his father's dreams aren't big enough, and sometimes his mother's vision isn't long enough. And sometimes the boy has to dream his own dreams and break through the clouds with his own sunbeams.”
