Messages from the Principal, Kim Fraser

The Year 6 students, Mrs Manning and Mrs Gibson went on their Big Day Out Camp on Wednesday to Point Walter Adventures! From all the very exhausted looks on their faces, they had a fantastic time!  They attempted raft building, did canoeing and completed team water activities at the river and in the pool. A really big thank you to the teaching team for all their efforts and to Mrs Manning for all the preparation work that goes with this event.

Our school now has an App

We have 112 parents using our new 'tiqbiz' phone app!  It is a great way to further open up communications with our families and to send through reminders of events, hopefully making life a little easier for you.  A lot of parents are using the app to keep you up to date with news and events.  We are also able to link you with information from the P & C and the School Board.

Election Sausage Sizzle and Cake Stall

Don’t forget that the Yokine Primary School P & C are holding a stall on Saturday.  Many thanks to the parents who have volunteered their time to help on the day.  If you can support the P & C in any way from baking some goodies to working on the stall please let the P & C know.  This is a great event that is a great way to raise funds that support your children’s learning.

A big thank you to the P & C team who again have put in a lot of effort in organising this event.

Yarn Bombing

I am sure you have all seen our amazing 'Yarn Bombed' tree at the front entry.  A very big thank you to Roz Cotterell, a past parent, for this generous gift.  Thanks to the few parents who dropped off yarn for Roz to be able to complete the tree.

Have you paid your voluntary contributions?

With your support we are able to build on our Literacy and Numeracy programs, sports, arts & music programs and equipment.

Your contributions enable us to expand on our range of digital technologies to support learning and prepare your child for a digital environment. We will also be able to make significant improvement to the early childhood play environment.

Many thanks to the parents who have paid these contributions which are accepted at any time of the year at our office.

A Healthy Lunchbox

Healthy lunches and snacks are important for keeping active kids alert and focused and providing them with the nutrition they need every day.

A healthy lunch box should include:

  • Fruit – at least one serve of fresh seasonal fruit. If you don’t have fresh fruit, canned (in natural juice with no added sugar) is a good substitute. Dried fruit is high in sugar and should be avoided
  • Vegetables – vegetable sticks, salads or a mix of raw (with dip) or grilled vegetables
  • Dairy – one serve of dairy; milk, yoghurt or cheese; supports optimal growth and development in children. If your child can’t tolerate dairy provide a suitable alternative.
  • Protein – lean meat or poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, legumes/beans, or nuts and seeds.
  • Grain foods – wholegrain and high fibre varieties are best.
  • Water – the best drink to keep children hydrated.
  • Avoid packaged and highly processed foods which are likely high in sugar and artificial ingredients.

Remember, children who help plan and prepare their own lunch are more likely to eat it.  Your child might like to try out this fun, ‘Interactive Lunchbox’ website: www.goforyourlife.vic.gov.au/hav/articles.nsf/html/index.html
