From the Principal

Ellen Stewart

Here are a few words of wisdom.

Sometimes it's important to compromise -- to make a "common promise" --in order to reach an agreement. But there are times when compromise isn't the right thing to do. American statesman, Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., says:

It is never right to compromise with dishonesty.

In other words, he's saying that it is never right to reach an agreement to be dishonest, whether you make that agreement with yourself or with others. Let's think about some compromises people make with dishonesty.
Have you ever made these kinds of compromise? Have you ever told yourself that it's OK to lie about skipping school . . . that it's OK to cheat on a test . . . that it's OK to keep the extra change the cashier accidentally gives back? These kinds of compromise with dishonesty are never right.
So don't make agreements with dishonesty. You're too smart for that. When you compromise your integrity, you compromise your future. Honestly!

"Dainty Turtles"

Robotics Team 2016-2017

My name is Kimberly Tran and I am the Bully Prevention Specialist at North Junior High. I began working in my current position in September 2016, and since then, I have been a mentor to students who experience bullying and students who are identified as bullies. I meet with students, and give them the opportunity to raise their voices against bullying issues they see at North. I work with them on self-advocating skills as well as self-management skills to ensure that bullying is being addressed in their lives. I ensure that students have a safe space where they can express their concerns and learn how to deal with bullying in a hands-on way.

If you have any questions, please call me at (320)251-2159 extension 4185. My office at North is 185.

Yearbooks are still on sale! They can be purchased online through walsworthyearbooks.com -- we are listed as North Middle School :) They are $20 each! Also, if you have any pictures you would like to submit, please email them to me at: alyssa.miller@isd742.org - we would love to have them!
Ms Bautch's Art Class
In 6th grade 3D art, students created Pop art paper-mache sculptures.  They picked a food, made an armature of the food and then paper-mached it.  After their artwork was dry, students painted their sculptures.  They looked up the history of their food and wrote a paragraph about the food they picked.

*Please help us create some art!  The art department would appreciate if you have some of these items sitting around at home, if you could bring in...

-cereal boxes or thin cardboard
-small broken toys
-junk
-newspaper
-plastic caps
-old CDs

-old clothes (anything will do)

Art Gallery Show at North Jr High

On January 26th, we had over 50 pieces of student artwork on display in the cafeteria for our bi-annual Art Gallery Show.  35 North students grades 6-8 meet on a weekly basis, some many days a week, to learn and create artwork throughout the school year. Over 200 parents, teachers, siblings,  community members,  and friends showed up to view the artwork, talk to the artists, as well as have a chance to learn to use different art materials.

-An eighth grade student visited to see the artwork some of her peers had created, and got to do some creating herself

-Refreshments were served and drawings were held.

-Parents and families view artwork and read the artist statements about the pieces.

Horizons Event for Girls

Horizons is a day-long event in which girls, grade 7-12, participate in hands-on approaches to STEM activities through various workshops. The workshops will be guided by current faculty and organizations in the STEM programs here at SCSU. Breakfast and lunch are included for the students along with a goody-bag and a t-shirt.

We will be hosting this program on Saturday, March 18, from 8am-4pm. Horizons is a free event this year, but due to the mature nature of our workshops, we are requiring that attendees have a signed permission slip for this event. Attendees can mail in their permission slip to us by March 10th. We do request advanced notice if you are planning to turn in your permission slip at the door. Permissions slips can be mailed to:

The Society of Women Engineers - SCSU
ECC 211, 720 4th Ave. S.
