House Republicans Release Plan to Replace ACA

On Monday, March 6th House Republicans released the American Health Care Act (AHCA), legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Since its release numerous organizations have come out for and against the bill. Below are statements about the legislation from national and state health care organizations, as well as comments from Congressman Doug LaMalfa.

The National Association of Community health Centers (NACHC) says that the bill makes major changes to Medicaid that gives the association cause for concern. To read their feedback click here

The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) says that the changes would do little to address healthcare access in rural America. To read NRHA's analysis click here.

The California Primary Care Association says that  (CPCA) says that the AHCA would make significant changes that will adversely affect community health centers and the communities they serve. To read CPCA's initial analysis click here.

The California Hospital Association (CHA) is concerned that the law could have negative impacts on California hospitals and the patients they serve and is disheartened by the failure of this plan to restore funding for the Medicare program. To read CHA’s statement click here.

District 1 Representative, Congressman Doug LaMalfa
, however, in a statement released Wednesday, says that he sees the AHCA as a step in the right direction, according to an article published by the Reading Record Searchlight.

Siskiyou Healthcare Collaborative Highlights Needs to Reduce Opioid Overuse, Overdose and Deaths to County Board of Supervisors

The Siskiyou Daily News reported that at the March 7 meeting, the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors heard a presentation from members of the county's newly formed opioid safety coalition, SARA – Siskiyou Against Rx Addiction – and approved a resolution designating March 2017 as Prescription Drug Awareness Month.

A subcommittee of the Siskiyou Healthcare Collaborative, SARA works locally to identify and implement interventions that aim to support safe prescribing practices, expand access to medication-assisted treatment, and increase naloxone access in the community. SARA has joined 25 other coalitions in the State to identify and implement collective actions to reduce the epidemic of opioid misuse and abuse. Siskiyou County ranks tenth out of 58 counties in the State of California for the number of annual deaths from opioid overdose.
