                                                                                        March 15, 2017
Dear Parents, Guardians, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of Assumption-St. Bridget School,

We hope to see all of you tomorrow and Friday at our Spring conferences.  It is a perfect time of year as we head into the third and final trimester to celebrate growth and set final goals for the year.  We will also be hosting special parent sessions for all 6,7,8th grade parents to meet the new math and science teachers, Mrs. Tracy Hafflman and Mrs. Derval Killalea at 5:45 in the middle school wing.  At 5:30, all second grade parents are invited to attend a meeting in the 2B classroom, to find out details about teachers and instruction for the third trimester.  I am fully aware and sensitive to the heightened parent and student concern over the situation we are facing with two teachers resigning before year-end.   I am fully dedicated to seeing these unique and unusual situations through to a positive end for our students.  I  remain available to you if you have questions or concerns as we move forward throughout this trimester.

As mentioned above, this week we welcome Mrs. Tracy Hafflman, 7th grade math teacher, and Mrs. Derval Killalea, 6th grade science, 8th grade math, and zero period geometry, to our stellar ASB faculty.  These two educators bring expertise in the content areas along with teaching experience in middle school and high school.  ASB is fortunate to have them.  Please help me in making both Mrs. Hafflman and Mrs. Killalea feel a welcomed part of our ASB community.

This week the entire student body got to enjoy a preview of our upcoming musical, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  Everyone is in for a big treat as our musical launches March 30th and runs through the weekend.  The cast is filled with talent and the hard work and dedication of our student actors, support crew, Mrs. Olsen, Mr. Turner, and Ms. Zolotuski is evident!  Please plan on attending and enjoying a lovely night of entertainment.  See the school website for more details.

This week ASB wraps up our Leukemia Lymphoma Society Pennies for Patients drive.  All students are encouraged to bring in their hard earned donations to support this worthy cause.  Our school goal is $1000.  Since the beginning of the student series of fundraising for LLS, students have raised more than $315 million to fund breakthrough therapies and patient services, and more than $26 million in 2015-2016 alone!  ASB has been directly affected by both leukemia and lymphoma.  These efforts allow us to actively participate in the work toward a cure for these types of cancer.

Next Tuesday is national Down Syndrome Day.  In order to increase our awareness and live out the principle of inclusion, we will host a captivating guest speaker on Monday for an all school assembly.  Tuesday, students are encouraged to wear blue and yellow to show solidarity on this day.  Central to ASB's mission is accessibility to ALL.  This is one of the many ways that we can live out our mission.  The Catholic schools throughout the Archdiocese of Seattle are home to many Down Syndrome students.  We unite with them and all of those who have Down Syndrome!

As we all continue through our Lenten journey, one of the three pillars we as Catholics focus on is prayer.  I encourage you as families to set time aside each day to simply pray as a family.  Prayer can take many forms, but in its essence, we simply quiet ourselves enough to talk and LISTEN to God.  Enjoy this season of preparing ourselves to fully encounter Christ in his life, death and resurrection.

In Christ's Peace,
Christina Vierra McGill

Pennies for Patients

In honor of Henry Streuli, our former student, classmate and friend who lost his battle with Burkitt's Lymphoma shortly after graduating from ASB in 2015, our Student Council is leading the Pennies for Patients fundraiser. Funds raised will help researchers to find a cure for patients with Leukemia or Lymphoma cancers. Each classroom has received a box where students can donate money through tomorrow, March 16. Our goal is to raise $1,000. Thank you for your support!

Extended Care will be open this Thursday, March 16, and Friday, March 17, 2017, as ASB School is closed for conferences. Please communicate your need for Extended Care to Dylan Pouley.

Extended Care registration for the 2017-2018 school year will coincide with next week's State of the School meetings.  Registration forms will be included in the registration packets (and available on the ASB website) at the time of these meetings.

Registration for Summer Extended Care or Camp ASB is now open.  Similarly to the past two summers, Camp ASB will not be open during the month of August.  There are a great deal of facilities projects that can only be finished when students are not on campus and August is the only time that ASB School has available to complete these projects. I am still working on the 2017 Summer Calendar, and will plan on having that available to families by Spring Break.

KinderCamp is also returning to ASB for the 2017 summer.  KinderCamp will run in two sessions. Session one will take place the first week that school gets out, June 19-23 and will be held Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Session two will be held the last week of Camp ASB, July 24-28 and will also run Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Planning for KinderCamp is in it's final stages and will be finalized and available to incoming kindergarten families shortly.

If you have any questions about Extended Care or Camp ASB, do not hesitate to contact me, I am happy to assist in whatever way that I can.

Thank you,
Dylan Pouley
