"Greyt News"           March 2017

In this Issue
Happy March, Adopters and Friends of AGA!
It’s been said that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.  No truer words were spoken when it comes to greyhounds and AGA!  We've already adopted 13 greyhounds in 2017, we have 5 more adoptions pending, and we've got 16 more greyhounds in our adoption program looking for their happy retirement homes.
In the last two weeks, eight dogs came from Valley Race Park in Brownsville where racing ended in early February. This left racing greyhounds that were too slow to compete elsewhere looking for an adoption program.  Four of those have been adopted so far, one is in foster care and the other three are in need foster homes.   We also took in four retirees from Florida and four brood mamas.
Please, if you have ever thought of enjoying the rewards that helping a greyhound transition from track dog to pet dog can bring, now is the time to step up and help!
February was the start of our San Antonio meet and greets and if you have been on our Facebook page you will find pictures with lots of people and lots of hounds.  The meet and greets have been a success so far with applications coming in and a chance for the greyhounds to get together.
As the weather continues to warm, we will be back at Dog Boys Dog Ranch for our monthly play dates.  Check on Facebook for updates.
Don’t forget to get your tickets for Greys Uncorked, AGA’s spring fundraiser.  It’s a wonderful time in the Hill Country with friends and hounds, all for a greyt cause.  Go to our website and click on the link to purchase your tickets.  It’s money well spent.
Hug those Hounds!

March's Lucky Charm - Wise Lady

Lady is every bit the "lady" in the house. She is well potty trained and will go to the back door when she needs outside. Oh, but once outside she turns into a two year old pup!  She loves to run circles in the back yard and play with her toys. Once back in the house she immediately is calm and loves to hang with her people or, better yet, sleep in her bed. If you leave your shoes or socks out, Lady will pick them up and put them away for you. But she thinks they should be put away in her bed rather than the closet. And she does the cutest thing with her nose  .... she can actually twitch it from side to side, much like Samantha in the Bewitched TV series.Lady is fine with respectful children and gets along well with small dogs and is cat tolerant.

AGA - Starmark Hutto Collaboration Update

Delray and Fox are doing wonderfully with their training at Starmark Animal Behavioral Center.  The program is win-win for Austin Greyhound Adoption as it gives us a place for greyhounds that need a little more structure prior to adoption.
We are pleased and proud that both DelRay and Fox have tested and passed their components for CGC.  Next is their third and final component of training where they will be learning even more skills like agility and dock diving!  It's just like summer camp for canines!
They will finish their training session at the end March and will move back to AGA ready for adoption.  When they are adopted they will be awesome obedience trained dogs ready to become therapy dogs.
If you are looking to adopt DelRay or Fox and have adopted from AGA in the past, please contact us!
If you are interested in adopting and have not adopted through AGA please submit your application on line.
HEALTH ZONE
Keep up with Preventatives!
With the warmer winter fleas, ticks and pesky mosquitoes are not eradicated through freezes. Heartworm medications and Flea and tick preventatives will make sure your dog stays happy
and parasite free!
Are you looking to get involved with AGA?!?!
We have many opportunities to Volunteer!
See all of our upcoming events on our Website or on Facebook!

We are also ALWAYS looking for foster homes. Foster homes are the backbone of AGA and foster families help newly retired racing greyhounds adjust to life in a home. They get to know each dog's personality which helps us to find the best forever home possible.
Austin Greyhound Adoption pays all medical expenses for greyhounds in foster care, and all we ask of foster families is that they love their foster dog like one of their own, feed it, and talk to prospective adopters about their foster dog. Nobody knows the greyhounds in our program like their foster families!
Contact Christine Miller if you are interested in lending a helping paw!
