The table above shows there is a significant imbalance between output from the Northern Front Range teacher training pipeline and industry demand as relates to academic subjects.

Particularly serious shortages can be seen in mathematics, science and language arts. In fact, every academic subject is short on outcomes except music, which has a surplus of 47 newly minted graduates.

2017 might just be the year of transformation for healthcare.   A number of our hospital partners are exploring apprenticeships. Even though manufacturing and construction industries adopted the apprenticeship model decades ago, this is the first time healthcare is seriously considering apprenticeships as a possible workforce solution.

Systems change takes time.  Today the Partnership is working with Hope Street Group, a national health career pathways network, to collectively bring together hospitals from six states to expand the network and explore career pathways for in demand occupations. Apprenticeships is only one model that helps employers build a talent pipeline for entry and middle skill positions.

The GMDHP is focused on building demand-driven, competency-based career pathways. By engaging with Hope Street, we can collectively leverage available resources to serve the Denver metro region employers more effectively & efficiently. Objectives of the Hope Street Pathways network is to reduce job vacancies, increase diversity, decrease first-year turnover and increase the advancement of entry level employees to middle skill jobs by increasing the quality of hired employees.

Hard times for house hunters

Parker Chronicle | March 6, 2017
Low inventory, high prices typify a tough housing market

Prices are rising, wages aren't

Patrick Holwell, workforce economist for Arapahoe/Douglas Works, said there's a gap between home prices and incomes in the region, and that gap is widening.

“People who aspire to own a home are looking at it going steadily out of their reach,” Holwell said. “Their income isn't growing as fast as home prices.”

In January, the median sales price of a single-family home in the metro area was $380,000, up 10 percent from a year ago, according to DMAR.

According to data Holwell compiled from the U.S. Census Bureau, a growing number of potential buyers across the region can't afford a new home.

Prices are out of range for at least 205,000 households in Denver. In Jefferson County, a minimum of 150,891households are stuck where they are. At least 98,903 Adams County households and 134,818 Arapahoe County households are priced out, while Douglas County had at least 50,714 households not making enough to buy a home.
