A rooftop rainforest, the afterparty of afterparties and an homage to a cartoonist auteur
Cat & Mouse

CAT & MOUSE

THU 8 + FRI 9 JUN

Before there was Tom and Jerry, there was Krazy Kat and Ignatz Mouse, the original players of the cat and mouse duos. Created by George Herriman in 1913, his cartoon strip was loved across the arts- indeed Gilbert Seldes' review was the earliest example of a critic from the high arts giving serious attention to a comic strip. With their understated, no-brow appeal, George’s creations became the source material for some of the most recognisable cartoon characters of the twentieth century. It’s in these anthropomorphised characters that we see ourselves reflected.

It’s a timeless trick. Village Underground, together with Paul Barritt, of 1927 Theatre Company, are debuting the world premiere of Cat & Mouse here across two nights in June. It’ll be a theatrical animation experience with skeletons, a band of dogs, dancing, sadomasochism, high octane action, live music and moments of edification. Watch the trailer here.

Big Guns
21st March to 8th April at The Yard Theatre

Big Guns is the prickling at the back of your neck, the faint taste of blood on your teeth, the could-be sounds of a strange figure in the semi-darkness. The YouTube clip you hope doesn’t load but can’t help watching. It is violence. Against others. Against ourselves, it is a society living in fear, and the moment just before…
