Hello everyone and welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter!

This month as brave flowers are starting to peep forth and the light is growing longer, promising better weather to come, we're also looking forward to future events at Changes.

Firstly, we're very happy to welcome back Vicki's mindfulness sessions. We know so many of our members find mindfulness very helpful and it's wonderful to be able to offer a low cost way to access instruction.

We're really keen to see our members show off their talents and contribute to our Mental Health Awareness exhibition. Do have a look at the article below which explains more about the theme.

We're really lucky to have a great team of volunteers giving up their time for us to set up shop with their sewing machines, mending treasured garments for donations in the very first Mend For Good event which we are hoping will be a huge success. Well done to the team organising such an amazing event.

Most excitingly, we're about to open 2 new groups in Easton and Hartcliffe and we're looking forward to telling you more about them in a later edition as they take shape.

We're on the look out for prizes for our raffle to be held at our very swish summer party. We already have some amazing donations from generous businesses and individuals but more would be most welcome. Do get in touch with the Changes office if you'd like to contribute.

Surviving or thriving?

Good mental health is more than the absence of a mental health problem.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, 8-14 May 2017, the Mental Health Foundation are going to look at mental health from a new angle. Rather than ask why so many people are living with mental health problems, they will seek to uncover why too few of us are thriving with good mental health. With people struggling to cope with the demands of life and stuck on getting through the day, they will explore:

  • how many of us are surviving or thriving, and the difference between the two
  • why some communities are under strain and what government can do to support them to thrive
  • what steps we can take to look after our mental health, building resilience to cope with the demands of life.
Here at Changes we will be joining in this exploration by holding a small exhibition (venue yet to be arranged) of art, craft, photography made by Changes members on the theme 'Survive or Thrive'. With this in mind we are asking our members to start creating now
