Welcome to the GCVS March 2017 Newsletter

 

As we approach the end of the financial year, here at GCVS we're taking time to reflect on the changes we've experienced in the last 12 months whilst planning our strategy for coming year - it's been a really busy time!

It's also time for our members to renew their subscriptions - we hope you have made full use of the great benefits, support and advice you get as a GCVS Member, and we look forward to working with you next year!

Manifesto for Change

The Local Authority Elections are taking place soon!
Today, we have launched our 'Manifesto for Change' - GCVS Asks and Offers for the next Glasgow City Council Administration.

Devised with the help of our #SpeakForGlasgowTS Digital Panel Members, our Manifesto reflects the needs and wants of our Members from the next Glasgow City Council Administration.

We are also hosting a Hustings Event on Tuesday the 25th of April, from 5-7pm in The Albany Centre - click here to register!

 
SVQ Centre: SDF Addiction Worker Training Project
 
Our SVQ Centre provides support to participants in the Scottish Drugs Forum Addiction Worker Training Project. On the 21st of March, the team attended a Completion Ceremony at The Lighthouse, where the achievements of participants were celebrated.

Carrie from the SVQ Centre accepted flowers from SDF on behalf of Ruth Farquarson, SVQ Centre Manager, for her fantastic work for the project - unfortunately Ruth was unable to make it in on the day due to the snow!

Social Media for Social Good: Campaigning
Conference Report

 
On Thursday the 23rd of March, people from every sector and every corner of Scotland attended Social Media for Social Good, Glasgow's Digital Conference, the theme of which this year was Campaigning.

Organised in partnership with #BeGoodBeSocial, the event was a great success, with talks and workshops by people from various Third Sector organisations - including Third Sector Lab, Women 50:50, See Me and Third Force News - all of which the delegates found extremely useful.

They are looking for groups, organisations, projects and services which display excellent volunteering practice within Glasgow to be nominated for the Awards before the 18th of April.

Looking for Room Space!

Wellbeing Scotland’s Children and Families service are looking for a (preferably low-cost) room/space in the Glasgow area which would be suitable for seeing child and adult clients for confidential counselling sessions. Ricefield Arts are looking to appoint trustees to their Board at their upcoming AGM in May.
They welcome applications from diverse backgrounds and particularly from those with some knowledge of Chinese arts and culture, or with a connection to the Chinese community in Scotland.

Strategic Commissioning Event
 
The Third Sector Health and Social Care Support Team from The Alliance are hosting Strategic Commissioning Forum events around Scotland, starting with a session they held in Dumfries yesterday, Wednesday the 29th of March. 

The Glasgow session will be held at The Albany Learning and Conference Centre on the Wednesday the 5th of April from 10am-3pm.

Notre Dame Centre - Working Therapeutically with Play

The Notre Dame Centre are running experiential workshop, 'Working Therapeutically with Play (An Introduction)' on Thursday the 20th of April. In the workshop, they will explore the emotional experience of play for the child.

Action Earth Grants
 
You can now apply for Action Earth Grants from Volunteering Matters - grants between £50-250, groups of volunteers carrying out environmental projects in Scotland can apply.
