Our March Board of Directors meeting marked the end of the current board cycle and a goodbye to several exiting members, including past chair Mary Love of Love the Green Team, current chair Steve Linton of Deltec Homes, past treasurer Mike Figura of Mosaic Realty, and education committee member Margaret Chandler of Samsel Architects. Join us this weekend at the annual WNC Home Garden & Green Living Show at the U.S. Cellular Center downtown. In addition to the WNCGBC having an informational resource booth throughout the weekend, our Executive Director Sam Ruark-Eastes will be teaching educational sessions Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Register Now for This Month's Building Green Real Estate

The next BGRE course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28. It is hosted by the Land of the Sky Association of REALTORS® (LOTSAR) at 37 Montford Avenue, and offered in conjunction with the Asheville Home Builders Association and the WNC Green Building Council.

The Building Green Real Estate Certification Course was designed to provide up-to-date knowledge on the best green building practices for builders, REALTORS® and general contractors. The certification course consists of an initial one-day intensive. Topics include green/best management practices, warranties, marketing high-performance homes and builder/ REALTOR® communications.


Certificate holders will have access to use the BGRE logo for website or marketing purposes. Completion of the course also qualifies you for a rebate consideration. Rebates will be given on a first come, first serve basis and will be issued until funds have been used.  In order to maintain certification, 4 hours of CE is required on an annual basis.

WNCGBC Disc Golf Fundraiser

Join us at the Lake Julian course on the afternoon of Sunday, April 30 for the WNCGBC Disc Golf Fundraiser, a tournament with proceeds supporting our nonprofit.

Following the Captain’s Choice tournament, celebrate the day with prizes and an after-party in the Pavilion.

WHAT: WNCGBC Disc Golf Fundraiser
WHEN: Tournament at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 30 with an after-party to follow from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Pavilion
WHERE: Lake Julian Disc Golf Course, Fisherman's Trail, Arden
HOW MUCH: $40 per person

There are several work days coming up at the Lake Julian Disc Golf Course from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, April 2. If you are interested in volunteering to improve this course and help prepare it for our event, please email Raymond Thompson at surefootbuilders@gmail.com.

In the News: Bipartisan Energy Efficiency Legislation Introduced
 
A group of lawmakers introduced last month the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act, which contains key energy efficiency policy reforms that are hoped to strengthen the economy and reduce pollution.

Components of the bill were signed into law by President Obama in April 2015 and are already helping individuals and companies use less energy, create jobs and reduce emissions. These bipartisan reforms include common-sense initiatives that intend to create nearly 200,000 new jobs and help the economy by saving consumers $16.2 billion annually in reduced energy costs by 2030.
